I was just looking at the 2005 SIR catalogue from Winnipeg and there is a "Traditions" autoloading shotgun there for $374.99

3-inch with 3 choke tubes

For a new shotgun that is a heckuva price.

Does anyone here have any experience with the Traditions brand?

Who is the manufacturer?

They are made in Turkey and were imported and distributed by Traditions for a while. They are no longer imported/sold by Traditions because of quality and reliability issues.

I looked a them at a gunshop a while ago. They have an OK finish. However further examination and research made me stay away from this model. Even the salesman (who knew me well) discretly told me to disregard this autoloader because of the many dissatisfied customers they were having....

Yes, the price is unbelievable, but.....

I have 2 of them that are 4 or 5 years old. Both have countless shells through them at the clays range without a hitch. After several years, I took one out for ducks and the trigger mechanism broke after the first shot with 3" magnums. SIR sent me another trigger mechanism which I installed. Next trip, 2 magnums and it was broken.

I spoke to Frank, SIR's gun department manager, and he was surprised that I had owned the guns for so long without earlier problems. The issue was that the trigger mechanisms were Beretta design, BUT with plastic parts rather than metal. He apologized and sent me 3 Beretta trigger groups - aparently they had already changed them on all the store stock. I installed them on both of the guns (kept one for spare) and wasted a box of 3" magnums just to make sure that they worked. That was 2 years ago and everything has been fine since.

By the way, I am lazy and don't clean my guns until they act up. One of those guns has never been apart (except for the trigger group), or ever had a patch through it and I would estimate several thousand shells through it. The other one was taken apart after I dropped it in the lake. The bottom line is that they cycle dirty or clean without a hitch. They cycle 7/8 oz loads or magnums.

I have heard about all kinds of problems with these guns, but mine are well used and abused and except for the trigger mechanisms have been flawless.
