Traditions Nitrofire

I've been eyeballing them for a couple months. A fella from our hunt group showed up with 1 last fall. I have noone local to me that has them in stock except 1 place and he's out to lunch on his price. I originally was hoping the CVA crossfire(same system) that came out in the US last year would have made its way to Canada by now but it hasn't so I'll likely end up with the traditions model.

While local stores around me do sell them, and I freely admit I have not called/emailed the Ontario MNR, I'm concerned that they are not legal for muzzleloader season hunting in Ontario. From the regulations "A muzzle-loading gun is a gun that is loaded through the muzzle."

Now, we can debate what does "loaded" mean. From Trandition's website it is claimed that a bunch of US states do not allow it to be used during muzzleloader season as the powder charge is not loaded through the muzzle (as of today, I note that 23 states are "no" and 27 states are "yes").

Has anyone contacted their provincial MNR and flat out asked? I currently use a CVA Wolf and so have not considered upgrading to a NitroFire.

Plus, I'm a bit paranoid that 5 of 10 years from now they will stop making the firestick.

That's my understanding when researching them. I was in touch with a gun shop in Manitoba where he said they wouldn't be bringing them in. Their regulations state that both projectile and powder must be loaded through the muzzle. Since the Ontario regs state only the projectile needs to be loaded from the muzzle they are allowed. Now with CVA producing a compatible rifle as well I'm hoping they will be around for a while.

Anyone shooting one of these yet??

Just had one follow me home from the gunshop....covid impulse buy.
How do you like the nitrofire Waterfowler? I finally broke down and ordered one Friday. Already had the bullets, firesticks and scope waiting here for it so now just waiting on delivery of the gun.

I really like it. Not cheap to shoot, but super handy for hunting with. Killed 5-6 whitetails with it so far.

What bullets are you using? I'm starting with 100gr firesticks and 305gr smackdown carnivores. Just having a bit of trouble finding rings high enough to clear the scope eyepiece from the hammer.

XTP 300 gr pistol bullets. Not mags.

Check out Accuracy Plus for rings.

If you're going to the hassle of that you might as well just convert it to smokeless

I have, but the one I mentioned would be less expensive to convert (less machining, no breech plug required) and the ease and convenience of removing the charge. Albeit the loads are much reduced. You need to start with a 45-70 donor either way.
I was just trying to show an option to the Traditions and the more expensive pre made cartridges.
