I pick up on Tula SKS (1950) from local gun shop.

when I shot it, first two round it's OK, hit the target, and after second round, bullet fly out of the target. only try 50yards. We try the couple time, and 3 people try it, same thing happend, so cannot be human error.

called the local gun shop asking for exchange, evern for consignment, they said1, this SKS only worth $200, they cannot do the exchange or consignment. 2, keep using this, the accuracy will get better.

1,Is this kind accuracy issue happend on your guys Tula SKS?
2,what I need to do with this SKS? put them in safe? or do some modification.

It's never happen to my Chinese Military SKS.

Did you strip it and give it a thorough cleaning?

While you're in there pull the bolt assy and have a gander down the business end of the barrel. Still got rifling? Any crown damage or other goings-on that might impair the bullet's flight? Non-chrome barrels with worn rifling were supposed to get refitted with chrome lined barrels during the refurb process but sometimes stuff gets missed.

If it turns out the barrel's bunk, and you can't get a return/exchange from your point of purchase PM me - I'll buy it for parts.

Tragedy? Huh?

Read this ... joke:

Obama goes to an elementary school to see the 'education process in progress'. So he joins a class...
Teacher asks class about meaning of 'tragedy'...
so, one hand is raised and an 'A' student says - it's like if a couple of students are run over by a tractor in the field...
- so, Obama comes and says - "No, it's an ACCIDENT', not a tragedy...

.. another student raises hand - 'it's like if a bus full of students runs off a cliff...'

- Obama cuts in again - 'No, it'd be a Great Loss...'...

..... nobody wants to give an answer anymore.........
then Little Johnny comes up and says: 'It's like, if Mr. and Mrs. Obama, and their 100 aids are on a plane, and it crashes in Great Canyon...'

- YES, Obama shouts, that IS TRAGEDY, tell us why it's a TRAGEDY?

... well...... it's not gonna be an ACCIDENT, and it's not gonna be a GREAT LOSS either ....

:D :D

I had a Tula 1950 SKS also, and for some reason when I went to a 100 range, I could'nt hit a a broad side of a barn. I can easily shoot basketball sized groupings with a smooth bore 12 gauge shotgun, looking down the barrel from 100 yards away, or print sub MOA with my Tikka T3 lite at 100 yards.

For some reason, at 100 yards away the SKS, was very inaccurate. I thought for some reason that it was me, so I passed the gun along to 3 other guys, and they had the same problem.

It is possible that there is the occaisional turd. After all, these are 60 year old military rifles that have done some pretty serious traveling.

I'm sure that even if its not super accurate, even the odd lousy shooter was still accurate enough do shoot someone from 50 yards away, if you were spraying the bullets.

Thanks for you guys.

But compare to my Chinese SKS, they are much better than Tula's. I will try to shot more ammos, if still have same problem, will try to sell it.

did you clean the cosmoline out of it first? or just start shooting right away? that could be your problem..........my sks shoots just fine...........3 or 4 inches at 100. and by cleaning the cosmoline out of it, i mean completely tearing apart the rifle and getting it out of every little part...........

I clearn the all cosmoline from the barrel. and bolts.

I will do carefully clean this will, and shoot again this weenkend to see what will hapen.

thanks

It may seem a little daunting but you must never take any milsurp to the range without a complete tear down and thorough cleaning. It's a safety issue and a good personal rule. Additionally I will not sell anyone a shooting milsurp unless I have performed a tear down and thorough cleaning as part of my due dilligence. If it's an unfired in the wrap collector then I will not do this because for obvious reasons.

Anyways, also have a look at your sites. Sounds more like a loose rear site to me. Personally I'd own an original SKS-45 or a Yugo 59 over a Norinco SKS any day of the week. The Chinese rifles go bang every time but they sure lack that certain je ne sais quoi!

hahahahah

Thanks, I will pay more attention for surplus rifle next time.

Obama joke was sooooo much fun, but on serious note....

you have 2 possible issues:

1. SKS was issued and sergeant was a cleaning "nazi"
2. defective barrel

Most common issue is #1. Since the cleaning was done in "near battle conditions" that's the most common issue. Think about year after year everyday cleaning by conscripts who don't really want to do it.

Fix: you need new crown on your muzzle.

Test: take a round and put it in the muzzle and move it clock wise or otherwise 360 degrees. If you have a nice mark only 1/4 of the length of the bullet, then you don't have that problem. If the bullet goes inside until the case hits muzzle - you have a big problem. If the bullet goes more than 1/4 , but less than hitting the case, you need new crown.

Existing fix: that's why many old Russian guns are "counter-bored" - fixing the same issue as above. Counter-bore would fix crown even if your round goes into the barrel until the case hits it.

Less common: issue #2: defective barrel. Two fixes: bedding or new barrel. Since new barrel is too expensive for that "cheap" (right now) rifle, you need to make sure it has as little vibration as possible when it heats up. Do whatever you want, but your goal is to make it as less movable as possible when it hits up and becomes more flexible.
