trail boss in 223

Anyone ever use Trail boss in the 223 I have a Winchester 70 feather weight that is handicapped with a 1-12 twist. I thought about rebarreling but want to try Trail boss for slower speeds with lighter bullets or possibly cast first. What's the best way to start? Fill the case to the neck and work down?

223 & 12 twist and 50-55g are like ice cream on hot apple pie they just go good togeather

I did that years ago with H&R/NEF Varmint in 223.

Fill the case with TB up to where base of the bullet will be,amount of powder x75% will give you starting load.That formula goes for both cast and jacketed bullets.

Important-TB is a fast powder,when you do ladder check with 0.2 increments or even less.Tiny amount of that powder can make a lot of difference on paper.

btw-you know you will end up with size up from 22WMR,right?

Used it lots. 40gr bullet and 6gr of tb was around 1600fps. 8gr was 2300fps.

I started my lad on centre fire at 7 years old shooting 55 grain Sierra Boat tails in front of 5 grains of trail boss. Super quiet and no recoil. We never went passed 6 grains looking at my records.
6 grains was not a stout load in that rifle by any stretch. It was a 9 twist savage.

My .223 small game load is 5.0 gr. TB under Hornady 55 gr. SP. Very accurate load and doesn't mess up grouse and hares.

Awesome. A can of Trail boss is a lot cheaper than rebarreling. I wanted a 25/20 to shoot cast with for small game. Maybe this will get me by until I find a decent 25/20. I hardly ever shoot the Winchester

I've found that 6 Gr of titegroup with cast bullets made for a nice plinking load.
