I been reading around on the internet ;) and found this just wondering if anyone can back these loads up. Ian looking at the 45-70 405 gr boolit. Min charge is 12.0 and13.0 is the max.
Thank you very much.

your picture is hard to see but yes 12-13 grains of trail boss with a 405, its a real giggly load to shoot.......stock up on bullets or lead.....

I use 16gr pushing a 330 paper patched boolit.
If I can see it, I'll take the shot. But that's at a pit at any stray rock's.

I took this mulie doe at 35 yards in the fall with a 405gr OMA boolit over a max load of trail boss, clean pass thru the ribs and heart... Very manageable recoil and plenty of energy to get the job done.

I have had a highwall and sharps in 45/70 and played with different powders and bullets for a few years. The most accurate load in both rifles was the max grain of trailboss, and 300 grain berrys bullet. No other combo could do better at 100 yards. 405 grain lead bullet was good, but not great like the 300gr.

12.0 g of trail boss gave me an average of 928 fps in a marlin guide gun.
405 g hard cast.
I would not want to risk leading up the barrel with more velocity.
Been there, (different gun) and no fun to fix.

I suspect this load would pass through broadside on the biggest whitetail.
Under 125 yards, the max useful range I suppose.

Before the scope was mounted I had peep sites.
And was plenty accurate enough for punching gongs.
fun to shoot...
