Trail Boss Subsonic loads

Got a pound of trail boss, being playing a little with subsonic rifle loads.

762 54 R
10 gr. Trail Boss
Hndy 220 round nose(deemed best bullet style for subsonic loading, well a tear drop shape)
25yards set the sight for 400 and its right on about 1" 3 shot group
50yards set the sight for 700 and its 11/2" high about 1.25 " 3 shot group

Around same noise level as a .22 lr, no recoil.

My 12 year old daughter is going to love these....

Any one else play with this stuff?

I have tried Trail Boss in almost every cal I have from 380auto to 577 Snider some great results and some not so great. But I do love its versatility. Fill your bottle neck cartridge to the bottom of the neck, this is considered max charge cut back 10% and go from there,I have gone way low on some loads,

5.0 inch Barrel S&W
Wont go through 4 inch High Density Foam at 40 feet. Have actually re-used the same bullet to see if possible but dont recommend it.

What load and methods did you use when loading TrailBoss for 577 Snider? I have been thinking of trying this but have found no loads for the 577 anywhere online.

Surprised those aren't keyholing on you... The 220 RN isn't stable in either of my 308 Win. 1.10" twist barrels and I would think the twist rate on that rifle would be slower.

They groups ok, but the holes are kind of oval...
 
Yup - used 110 grain frontiers in both 30-30 and 30-06. Had excellent success with the 30-30 cuz of the slow twist. And it was very fun. Still have over 1/2 a pound of TB and will get back to it sometime... especially for the kids. They love to shoot steel with those.

Nice round holes, the Lapua 30 cal subsonic bullet is 200 gr.. If I had some rn 180's I would give them a spin....
 
The 200 gr. lapua was designed as a subsonic bullet and has it's center of mass positioned accordingly, which is why it defies the rules.

The 180's will be stable if the 220's are... shorter bullets are easier to stabilize.
 
im working on a 308 load with this stuff im using 165g cast projectiles with 10g trail boss but they were around 1270 fps i want to get them around 1100 fps . has any one tried copper jacket projectiles with TB? any stuck bullets?

Cooper works, just more expensive, and you can't load as slow. Just cut back on the powder till you get the speed you want with the cast. I have had 158 grain cast as low as 700 fps and accuracy was still very good. I load .310 round ball in my 308 with 3.5 grains of TB to use on partridge and rabbit while big game hunting. With TB there is no real lower limit, as long as you are going fast enough not to stick a bullet.

DO you use any filler in the cases with charges that low ?
 
I have shot 208gr. Hornady A-Max bullets from my Ruger M77 in 7.62x39. The compact 16" barrel version.

I used both Traillboss and Reddot. I shot 3-4 groups with the trail boss at 100. They were under an inch! I could not believe it!

The only draw back was I had to adjust my scopes vertcile adjustment a ridiculous amount!
