I just got moultrie I 40 trail cam. I just took back from its first scout in the field, it took three great pictures but that was it. When I retrieved it, it was flashing an error code 480, and now I can't take any pictures with it. It's not the batteries, thats the first thing I checked.

Anyone else have problems with the moultrie cams? Does anyone know how to rectify this error.

Thanks

Trying doing an update on the Moultrie website~ I believe its under their support link, if that dont help I would then send it back for warranty~

X2 here's a link to moultrie's software update.

mine works great, I wouldn't even mess with it if its giving you problems, just return to the store where you bought it and have them exchange it for you.

Thanks for the advice. I found out the 480 error means the auto picture mode is not making a connection to main board. I am going to take back to the store for an exchange.

Mine works, no error codes :)

One thing I noticed while trying it out in the house is that it looks like it will take quite a bit of sunlight to activate the daytime (color pics) mode. In my house it took only black and white pics unless I made sure a light source was shinning on the cameras sensor. I have not tried it outdoors yet since it is a bit rainy and very clouded over, so I am guessing with no sunlight it will take B&W pics only.

I have mine setup in a shady area and 90% of day pics are in B&W.

I just tried it under an umbrella outside and got some nice color pics. I put a 1GB memory card in there and am good for around 1000 pics :dancingbanana: I'll be setting it up under a tree in the shade so I guess I will also expect mostly B/W pics.
What do you figure your time delay is on your camera. I tried walking slowly past it and most the pics were showing just a little piece of me or nothing at all. I guess it depends how far away you are from the camera. I have not played around with it enough to figure out the range of the motion sensor, or size of the area it can see.

I got mine for $199 plus tax, and it also included 6 Moultrie batteries.( worth $10) You can get the one with the the flash instead of the infrared for $115. The one we are talking about here ( Gamespy I40) is 4MP, indicates temperature, time, date and moonphase on the pic. Its also can do video clips if you want. Comes with USB and TV Out cables.

Ive posted this before, its an interesting site and it reviews a lot of the cameras out there, and they gave this camera a very good rating.

I just picked a couple more of the Stealth Cam 35mm stuff. Old technology, and shunned by those who have embraced digital.

It cost me $22+ ship from ebay (each). I throw in a 24 exp roll of Kodak 400, and make a run to the Wally World 1hr photo every Sunday. Pic's are a bit grainy, but the do reveal if a trail is worth setting a stand on.

It won't make your breakfast and film your daughter's wedding...but it does give me a date / time stamp, and If some steals it - I am not out of pocket $150+!!

Mine is still at home, and hopefully I will get it installed near my feeder in a couple weeks, so maybe I will have pics in a month or so.

Just do a search for Trail cams" and there are a few threads on this subject, and I forget who it was, but someone posted some great pics with his camera, including some nice bald eagle pics.

Lets See The Pics Please!!!

OK, seems I did not read the latest reviews on the "chasing game" website. Seems they did did more testing on the 2008 model I40, and many of the cameras are now having issues, compared to the 2007 model. You may want to check out the new reviews on the I40 "Moultrie I 40 revisit review 06-15-2008" is the title of the new review on that website.

I'm crossing my fingers that the one I purchased last week is ok.

Well the store took back my I 40 with no problems. The manager was surprised because he said it was the first moultrie to come back. The I 40 has two options for upgrades. Does anyone know if these upgrades are wroth doing? Or should I leave the camera as is?

OH here are the three pics my old one took before it calfed, as you can see there all black and white, but that would be from lack of sunlight where I set it up(not inclulding the one taken @ 10:00 PM)

If your new camera works fine, DO NOT DO THE UPDATE!! Once you update you cannot reverse it, so if the update gives you problems, you are screwed. I believe your problem with your first camera is what they call "whiteout" which was a problem Moultrie had, and the reason they have the updates. I have read where the update fixed the whiteout problem and also where it made thigs worse.
If you notice the time of the two pics with whiteout, they should have been color at that time in the morning, the sensor in the camera could not decide if its day or night so you get those funky pics. One of the updates was supposed to fix that.
