Trail Cam Pics: 2013 Scouting Begins

Gee, that's an awesome looking buck! I can't believe how long your camera lasts. I bought a pair of those cheap Wildgame cameras and my Energizer batteries only last about 2-3 weeks. I also left my camera out last Fall and I'm anxiously waiting to see what's on it.

Bushnell Trophy; it's the one that will take pics from 3 to 8mp resolution. I always set it on 5mp, 10 sec interval. They are nice, small camera, run on 8 AA batteries, and like I said, use the Lithium Ion. They handle cold temps better than regular batteries.

You don't need the HD model or the stupid 'Bone Collector' model. Just the basic Trophy Cam. I buy the metal box that you can get for it. Screw the box to a tree, slide the camera in and it can be locked. Protects it some from bears. Thieves could still get it of course...

Went out today to check 3 cameras. Got a couple pics of a nice grizzly, off one of my cameras.

Edit to add: Oh yeah, pretty much every time I head in to this camera, I see grizzly tracks on the trail. Now I know who's been makin' 'em!

I also found 1 camera, in a location where I know there's a 170 class whitetail, never had a chance to check it since Oct, and found out today it had 'dud' batteries. The batteries were new, but never worked from the get-go. Bummer. I was looking forward to maybe seeing if that big buck showed up last fall, and I got nothing...

Demonical, I'll officially volunteer to go watch that area for you. Just send me the coordinates to where that deer was and you can rest assured that next fall no stranger will go take it. Lol.

Nice looking animals!

This is the best buck I've seen on my camera. I don't think he's a shooter; needs to grow some. He's traveling with a 3 pointer, which has nice beams and time length (but is only a 3 pointer...).

The old guy 'Dagger', that I've been watching for 5 years, died it seems. He was always on the camera but disappeared after Oct 28 2012. RIP Dagger.

The big non-typical, that i had pics of last year hasn't shown up, which doesn't mean much, since he only came by the camera during the rut. So he might still be out there.

What do you think about this buck? Is he a shooter (Alberta) and what do you think he might score? Pretty much fully grown rack...

I've been getting excellent battery life out of the Spypoint IR 5 and IR 6 as well. The Moultries I had before would only do three weeks on 6 D cells. I've gotten two seasons (April - December) out of one set of Duracell AA's in the IR 5 with well over 1000 pics. I had to do one change in the IR 6 but I was using bargain batteries from Toys R Us. Camera day coincided with my nephew's birthday that year.

I always carry a voltage meter in my pack now, and test every battery. That way there is no doubt about the batteries. It's crazy (good), how long those lithium ion batteries last.

Just checked a couple cameras; put new memory cards in May 23rd. Been stupid busy, but finally got out there and swapped out the cards. The lithium batteries in both, still like new. 3,871 pics on one camera and 4,974 pics on the other.

These are Bushnell Trophy cams, both are the old (original version), 5mp pics.

No pics of the non-typical that I've been seeing the last couple of years. But he's kinda camera shy anyway.

Hopefully that big buck survived this past winter, if he did, he should have a very respectable rack....................good luck!

Respectable buck...a trophy is in the eye of the beholder they say...I would pass hi. Personally I would guess he would score low 140s
