Trail cam pics

Personally I find even the cheap cameras take decent photos. Look for a minimum of five, preferably eight megapixel or better.
Battery life can get into serious dollars though. my cheapest camera (3C) 8 Lithiums only last two weeks!
The moultrie I have, takes four C cells, and lasts about two months, plus it has better time and date stamping ability, and the option to take short video.
Jay's spypoint cameras last a full year on eight Lithiums!

You can buy a 6V sealed lead-acid battery for under $10.00 at a battery store. Just plug it in to your camera external power jack or install one if yo have to. Just get the polarity correct and the diodes should take care of the voltage. You would need a recharged spare and be able to mount it so the critters can't get at it. They last a long time.

These things are amazing

Been a long time since I posted that. Not sure you can even get cameras that take C Cells anymore. Lithiums have progressed some so that most cameras that take 8 Lithium AA's will last a full year, or close to it, provided they take images, not video. Even rechargeable Lithiums last 4 to 6 months in some cameras. I've tried using external batteries. It just added a new level of frustration. Lithiums also don't lose a bunch of voltage when it's cold like other batteries. Most cameras with shut down if the voltage gets low when it's cold. They don't turn back on when it warms up either.

Surprisingly, after drying it out, it's been on the ground since November 10 2020, working the switches and changing that batteries, it's alive, and takes normal pics. Does it kill batteries now? to be determined. Also, can't get the menu system to work, so likely stuck at 2011 default date. Hopefully in a few more days of drying, I will JB weld things together and see if it works on a tree.

This is fellow moderator Jay's camera. He's not too pleased with that bear right now.

Slight edit, I am missing one friggin piece of the outer case a corner piece that seals. Damned little bear not even worth shooting! Other than that, I have the case all back together.

I would bet trips for sure, unless she's picked up an orphan or another doe just off camera. Does like to drop in my yard (because coyotes get shot here) and twins are common. Never had trips here. Very cool. They all look well.
