Hey guys wondering what everyone is using for trail-cams? pros/cons about each one? I have a Moultrie M-80 right now, it worked fine for the first little bit now it seems to be having battery issues... Thinking of sending it back to moultrie for it to be checked out/repaired if nescessary, also thinking of just replacing it with another camera.

Just weighing in on options right now, looking for opinions.

Thanks!

I have a moultrie an this year i bought a cheap tasco just for sxxts and giggles, the tasco actually takes better pic's than the moultrie, runs on 4 AA batteries and has stoo up to being attacked by a bear! Nice little cam for $80.

I will be buying a few more of the tasco cams this year

I have 4 Tasco 5mp and a Wildveiw extreme 4.Both have been good cameras and take nice pics. The tasco takes nice videos as well. Both have gone into hibernation mode on me ,But I have pretty much read about that on alot of Trail cams.

As much as I like to own Gucci stuff, I go pretty cheap on trailcam. First no other reason that I have had a few take a walk on me. Simmons or Tasco. My only requirement is that it takes pics and is non intrusive (noise or visible flash).

I have quite a few different brands and models, Bushnell, Stealth Cam, Reconyx, Spy Point and Monarch. Mostly for bears and deer, and general curiousity through the winter. Check out Monarch web site. Im pretty impressed with them. Got good pics and video last week at -34C with lithium energizer batteries. Small, durable, quick triggers, lots os setting features and decent price. Look em up. Worth a look. imo

Thanks for the replies guys! That's basically what mine was doing to me, when the weather got cold it screws the batteries up and I'm not talking -20 cold just average nighttime temps in oct/nov at the latest. Originally I thought it might have been a bad batch of batteries so I bought another set of energized lithiums just to have it dothe same thing tome again this year. I have seen those tasco cams and often have wondered about them just because of the cost... Are they fairly quick to take pictures? As in the trigger time?

Will look into the monarch cams as well thanks! Like I said just doing research right now, I don't use them at all in the winter, as I have no way to access the deer camp but come spring I'd really like to have at least 1 if not more up just to see what's around.

Here are a couple videos and a pic from the small cheap tasco trailcams. The pics are incredible and the video is quite good as well.I wish they had a photo counter that showed how many pics are on the SD cards.

Wow 7mm the videos and pics are awesome. Is it crown or private land? I hunt crown land and theft has held me back from purchasing some trail cameras. Looks like it is a great tool for hunting.

Thanks and yes it is private land not that stuff doesn't get stolen off private land "knock on wood".Anyone using trail cams should try the video mode it is unreal what I was missing when the cams were just in picture mode.

I have only 1 now - a reconyx no glow. Still has the same set of lithium batteries that I put in last June.. takes pix at -40 and keeps on going; several thousand by now. I like the no glow so as not to attract attention... but I do have a python lock on it.

I know that the Canadian Tire in Orillia has game cameras on clearance right now. Might want to check your local CT to see if they do as well.

So the general concensus is, the Moultry M80 doesn't like the cold...?

Tasco is the brand to get ? (I live in Alberta = cold winters)

* the only Tasco I'm seeing online is the 5MP unit, and averages around $110... @ Princess Auto they're $120

The Tasco's I have been using are the 5mp unit.I had one out all winter and it took many great pics,Uses 4-AA batteries which is a must for me.I actually got one for $69.00 at CT but I am not sure if they carry them anymore and I bought a 2 pack for about $139.00 at cabelas I'm not sure if they carry them. The Simmons does look quite similar.
Just wait for them to go one sale!

I have had a Moultrie D50, a couple Bushnell Trophy Cams and a Spypoint IR-6. The old Moultrie used the big 6 volt lantern batteries and had a horribly slow trigger time.

The Trophy Cams are either really good or ok depending on model revision (which you can't tell without a fair amount of research). They do have long battery life with Energizer Lithiums (easily the full season), relatively easy to set-up and decent picture quality. They seem to be staying right up there in price ($200~) though and the newest model seems to have been improved a bit but is more than I want to spend (usually about $250~)

I think if I buy anymore cams in the near future it will be a Spypoint. The battery life of my IR-6 has been almost as good (lasted the season but that was it) as the Bushnell, trigger time and picture quality is right there too. I like the case design better (better cable lock system and the case stays on the tree) and it is a Canadian product. The price is usually much better ($150~). Not sure about the new IR-7 but it seems like it should be very similar to the IR-6.

I like the spypoints too. I have an IR-6 and just got an IR-5 from TSC for $99. They look identical inside and out and if it works as good as the old one thats what I'll keep using. There are other cameras that take better nightime pics but now I limit it to $200 or less on my cameras because it doesn't matter what I buy the lifetime is around 3 years on any of them.

I've had issues with the Tasco 5MP cameras. One stopped working, took it back and got one with a defective case, then it's replacement has worked the last couple years. I find the sensor/flash range is terrible on them, but they do take really nice day pictures when its cold.

I really like my Moultrie M-100 but it has a bit of motion blur in IR and the picture quality is merely OK.

My Spypoint (I believe it's an IR-6) takes grainy pictures but otherwise works fine.

i bought a moultrie i40...after a few months the digital read out went all blurry...its a piece of crap that cant be used now as you need to read the digital read out to set it up...
