So I’m thinking about getting some new trail cams. I’ve been running the cheap Apeman ones you get from Amazon but the resolution isn’t great on them and I wonder if I’m missing animals.

So do you guys have cams that you like? If money wasn’t an issue what would you run? If it was, what’s the best bang for your buck?

I've got 18 Browning cams and 7 auxiliary battery pacs. They are excellent cams, battery life is very good and they are easy to program. The only thing I've found with them is you have to use Sandisk SD cards in them. Also, I have found their warranty and customer service very good. I called them once to ask about splicing the power cord on a battery pac that an animal had bit through. They sent me a new pac free of charge.
 
I've always had good luck with either Browning or Spy point.
Spy point is in Quebec and their customer service is usually pretty good too if any issues.
I'd stay away from Moultrie, that is just my personal opinion though.
Are you looking for a cellular cam or just a regular trail cam?
 
I picked up a Simmons prohunter 6mp in 2013 and use it every year from November to June. Hasnt given me any grief and the quality of photos is pretty good. Bushnell owns the Simmons line and they have excellent customer service. I had an issue with the first camera I bought because a friend dropped it and cracked the infrared panel. I took it to Bushnell as they are a few KM’s from my house and they handed me a brand new camera on the spot no questions asked. The camera they gave me in 2013 is the same one I’m still using. It also fits in the Bushnell security boxes which I like. I’d recommend the simmons or Bushnell game cams.

Ive got 3 Spypoint cams. 9mp 11mp and a 12mp.

When comparing look at trigger speed. If whatever your taking pics of goes by to fast you may miss it. An the time between photos, 1 min is normal. but I've also missed critters because its slow.
My 12mp is a coulee years old, but most cams don't take video WITH sound, perhaps some new ones do, if thats important to you. Mine take B&W nighttime video, some new ones will be full colour. The illumination for video is off the camera, and it only lasts for a couple seconds. Your not going to get 1min to 3 min fully lit nighttime videos.





my 9mp has a sensitivity wheel, as opposed to a 3 position button or switch. I like the wheel style better. For awhile I was seeing photos of birds flying into the frame, less senstitivity fixed that, but now I only get bigger stuff, like deer, no foxes or rabbits, but thats not a big deal for me.
 
I hope that I don’t jinx myself by saying this, but I have 4 Wildgame Innovations lights out mirage 16’s. I set them up in April and don’t check them until October. No complaints so far.
 
If you have cellular reception, I would seriously consider the spypoint link micro. Spypoint just lowered their cellular rates to almost half of what they used to be so it's quite reasonable. And I love getting instant updates on what walks by my cams.

What is it about the Moultries you didnt like?
I have read good reviews
 
Spypoints are junk. Battery eaters.
If you want a good cel camera try Ridgtec. Or stealth cam for the non cell versions.
 
I have over a dozen Ridgetec cams, they work well, battery life is good--I switch to Lithium Ion in the cold weather, and their CS is good the few times I had issues. Picture clarity is excellent, and their cell cams are awesome! $15/month for unlimited pics, 12 hour updates on camera status and they can now do video uploads too if you want.
 
What is the best trailcam that doesn't have issues with SD cards? I have tried 3 different models of Moultrie trailcams and they all have SD card issues. Any input is appreciated.
 
I got a bushnell trophy cam for Christmas last year. It was still taking pics in -27 and a blizzard likely -40 with windchill. Doesn't seem to spook deer or coyotes so it must be quiet and takes great pictures. All trail camps have really improved in the last few years
