A friend has a Bushnell Trail Sentry model 11-9000 and I tried to use it this past week. So far got a pic of a cow and nothing else dispite the fact that there where fresh deer tracks right in front of it. Also it only takes a pic of me once in a while when I walk infront of it but gets cars passing on the street all the time when I set in looking out at the street. Are these things crap or is this one bad and should my buddy take it back? He just bought it new this month. Thanks.

Which model is that? Is it a new model or an older one? How much $$$ etc...

I take the viewpoint that you get what you pay for so I'd prefer to pay a bit more and only buy once.

I think on any of these trail cameras there is a delay between when the sensor gets triggered and when the camera shoots, maybe a few seconds. I think they need to be positioned strategically such that the animal will be in front of the camera a second or so longer. I think setting the camera on an angle to the trail will get you pictures more reliably then if it is set at 90 degrees to the trail.

The other thing I think is you could put something in front of the camera to make an animal stop to check it, like some kind of scent or something. These cameras really got started by Yankees using them over trail feeders for deer, bear etc... So a set-up like that, that holds the animals attention right in front of the camera is definitely going to be the best.
