Trailboss Availability?

The Hodgdon site still lists it, so not discontinued. It may be hard to find on dealers's shelves though. A quick Google check show a number on online dealers have it in stock. Good on you to start reloading again. Welcome back to the (now pretty expensive) addiction.

Here's what I've read on another forum, it's talked about on quite a few US forums as well with the same message:

I use Trail Boss exclusively for cowboy. Here in Canada supply dried up some time ago, at least anywhere I know of. I emailed ADI in Australia. Here is their reply I got last week.

Thank you for your email.

At this stage our R&D team are still in the process of working through being able to manufacture Trail Boss propellant.

We don’t have it officially in the production schedule for 2023 until the R&D team can confirm that manufacturing Trail Boss propellant will be successful.

So, at this point, I would pick another powder rathar than wait for Trail Boss to become available again (if ever).

I heard Alliant won't bring any powder into Canada any longer because our friends the French deem it necessary to have french labeling on all the containers of powder and Alliant will not put them on
If that's the case then no more Unique, bullseye, power pistol, 2400 or any of the other powders they make :(

Not true. My current bottles have stickers in French on them. Alliant powders are currently on dealers shelves as a search will prove it.

Meanwhile I've had some success with WST for low-power revolver loads, and there's still Titegroup out there as a fallback. Trying to reload in this market has always required flexibility and knowledge of alternatives.

Alternatives are around. The newer Lyman manuals dropped a lot of older useful powders and replaced them with the newest and greatest. Many shotgun powders can be used in pistol loading or cast rifle loading. Lyman # 46 has alot of powders used that are available and has data for many pistol loads. I decided to start using some 700-x I had and found I had over 10 lbs of it. Didn’t think I had that much so I started looking at what it could be used for. So far I have loaded my 44-40 with it. Find older manuals and see what they have for information.

Yup, alternatives are pistol/shotgun powders. Red dot has always worked well for me and I'll be grabbing some titegroup since its available locally. Hodgdon has a subsonic section in their online data as well which can be helpful for picking a reduced plinking load.
