Interesting question, you are required to have proof of registration. So technically, an email stating it's registered "Should" be good enough short term. But the Actual Certificate of Registration is the only Legal document of registration you'd have. So I'd say it comes down to being stopped and what kind of a mood the cop is in at the time.

I was told by the CFO lady to pick up the gun, but cannot take it to the range until I receive the certificate of registration and a new updated RPAL to att.

a buddy with RPAL said print a copy of the email and have it with the gun is good enough, he owns several guns and does it all the time .

Yupp. This is right. You can take the gun home from the store ect, but can't take it to the range without the actual reg certificate.

Yeah they sent me a notification that it was on to pick up, and attached a pdf letter that it's registered in my name.
This is NOT a legit copy, as they send the official one out via snail mail which takes about 1-2 weeks
and an update RPAL with conditions of ATT since it's my first purchase.

The emailed copy is your temporary registration. Contact the CFO office and they will tell you that it is all you need to go to the range until the original comes in the mail. I have asked them on 2 different occasions and got the same answer. I am in Ontario so it is possible that it is different in other provinces.
Different provinces, different CFO, different answers. In Ontario I have been advised I was good to go with the transfer notification but my brother in law in BC has received the opposite info from the BC CFO's office.
OP, I would follow the advice you received from your CFO's office. Plus it sounds like you don't have the ATT conditions attached to your existing RPAL, that's why they told you to wait for your new card.
Also, registration docs, like your new RPAL, come from Miramichi, not your provincial CFO...hence the delay.
It seems Ontario is different.

I guess it all depends on who you talk to. I spoke directly to the Ontario CFO office about this and he sent it to me via email and said the email copy of the temp doc was all I needed until it arrived in the mail. I was also tested this past Friday evening when I was stopped by the police when pulling out of the driveway of the range. I showed him the email on my phone ( ran out of ink on my printer so couldn't print it ) with the temp registration and all was good.
