Transfer of firearms at CFC- your experience?

Greetings to all,

I bought a handgun on March 30th and it is still "in process awaiting CFC" approval. I do understand that there is a delay in processing, Easter holidays etc. What is you own experience with CFC delays wrt handgun transfer? Some of you might have had a couple of hours delay but others several weeks. How much time is "normal". It is my first time buying a handgun and dealing with transfer of restricted firearm.

CFO approval normally makes up the lion's share of the delay. I've never noticed any delays with the CFC, other than waiting on hold for service.
 
As little as 2hours....as much as three weeks....mostly nearer the week mark....no complaints here
 
It took me 2 weeks in Saskatchewan. At the same time, it was my first restricted, they issued me a LTATT without even me requesting one.
Although that was on my to-do-list.

for all my purchases so far since last Nov, average is about 3 weeks. I am in ontario. most of my purchase happened in Alberta, some in Ontario.

For your first restricted, I'm betting they are waiting for clarification of use before completing the transfer (ie proof of current range membership). This is what I experienced. Don't wait for them to ask you (who knows how long that will take), just call and ask what the status is of the transfer.

They already have a proof of range membership...but will check again with them.
 
I live in BC and my last three transfers of restricted have all taken just less then one full day. I am ok with that.

As someone else here stated phone them up and ask them in a nice way if there is a problem as they won't phone you to tell you there is a problem. They just wait for you to call them.

My last one (private sale transer) took about a week once I was involved, and there was a complication with the serial number on one of them (the gun had two numbers and there was some confusion, but it was cleared up). So that week included the CFC, the Alberta and BC CFO offices.

Most folks I talk to have private sale transfers take less than two weeks during regular times. With holidays, expect an additional week.

For a while, the owner of my LGS was complaining that BC transfers were taking 3+ weeks. However, that is now down to under a week here. I suspect the CFC and CFOs get behind sometimes and it takes a while to dig out. I got my last STATT emailed to me while I was on the phone with the BC CFO, while a previous one a couple years ago took 3 weeks via email (and was useless by the time I got it...).

My point is - it takes as long as it takes...you are dealing with the government. My last driver's license renewal took over a month for me to get my new card, but the health care card I renewed at the same time got to me in less than a week. Government. Government. Government. Just repeat that word to yourself a few times and everything makes sense.
 
My latest one, in Ontario, took 3 days. Started on Monday, took possession on Wednesday.
They emailed the paperwork WITH the STATT good for a month.
No complaints here....
