So my late gramps had a service pistol brought back from WWII that was passed on to my uncle. My uncle hasn't shot it in years but wants to keep it in the family. Is there anyway for him to transfer it directly to me given the origin of the firearm being my grandfathers. Or will I have to have my dad take his RPAL to transfer down to me?

If you are a grandchild you should be good to go providing the firearm was properly registered and manufactured before 1946.

Next of kin of grandfathered individuals

(7) A particular individual is eligible to hold a licence authorizing the particular individual to possess a particular handgun referred to in subsection (6.1) that was manufactured before 1946 if the particular individual is the spouse or common-law partner or a brother, sister, child or grandchild of an individual who was eligible under this subsection or subsection (6) to hold a licence authorizing the individual to possess the particular handgun.

It is technically your uncles now. The grandfathering clause doesn't refer to extended family like a nephew. To me sounds like the item would need to be transfered to your father and then to you.

I believe that this is the correct interpretation.

I would suggest, though, that if the OP contacted the CFC and explained the situation (and lineage), they might be willing to do the transfer. Especially if you explain to them that your Dad could simply get his RPAL, then take possession of the gun, then transfer it to you anyways if the CFC wanted to be difficult. It's certainly worth a shot.

Liberal so-called "grandfathering" is a liberal concept to create & maintain two different classes of firearms owners. Divide & conquer.
Canadian gun owners are all the same, with the same requirements for obtaining a PAL. This two tiered system of some people can own certain classes of firearms that others who came later cannot own is strictly UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

Why are gun owner organizations not suing the gov't about this unconstitutional disparity?
Why are the gun owner organizations not seeking an injunction stopping the the RCMPolice from banning 10/22 high cap 22LR mags?

Sheeple!
