Once you hand over your cash, the seller will call the RCMP and initiate the transfer with your PAL number. Then he will be given a reference number to pass on to you which you will use when you call the RCMP to complete the transfer.
You will then wait up to four weeks for the paperwork to be sent to you. If you are picking the gun up from the seller or from the post office then you will need a STATT.

You give the seller your name, RPAL #, DOB and phone # if you plan on chatting with them. Get their name and #. Send the money agreed on. They initiate the transfer with CFC, they give you the reference # so you can call CFC and Finnish the initiation. CFC AND CFO do the rest. 0-6 weeks to get the go ahead for the STATT to mail it out. If picking it up you need to be sure you have the registration prior to picking it up (2-6 weeks).

I just did the receiving end of a transfer yesterday. Your RPAL #, and name and address to seller after paying: they obviously need your address to ship it to you anyway. Seller will then call CFC to initiate transfer, and will tell you reference #. You call CFC @ 1-800-731-4000 and follow prompts to "complete a transfer.". Ignore the warning for needing to know barrel length etc: that is a requirement for the seller. When you get off hold you provide reference #, DoB, address, and place of birth as well as if gun is going to your address. They will also verify gun model etc. You then confirm with seller that you have done your end. File gets transferred to Provincial Chief Firearms Officer for approval and the wait begins. Seller should tell you when gun has shipped and you should receive gun and certificate thereafter.
You would probably have to wait one to two weeks to get the gun in hand.
Thanks for the info. I will then apply for a long term ATT to transport to the shooting range. I am curious though; I have 2 residences. I plan to keep the firearm at one residence but if I wanted to move the firearm to the other residence, can I also apply for a long or short term ATT to do that as well?
