I agreeded to buy a HG from a member on here. I was told it was prohib but no issue to change to restricted. It is a Dan Wesson 15-2, now 8" bbl. Before I paid the money I was told it was now restricted, just waiting for new registration number, shouldn't take long. Now 3 weeks on nothing from CFO. This is a Quebec resident selling gun.

Looking for an idea how long this process should take? I paid my money 3 weeks ago. Seller is OK, keeps in contact, has offered a refund if I am unhappy.

Thanks.

Paperwork from prohib to restricted can take a couple of months, and Quebec is notoriously slow to begin with, so don't sweat it

I think the process may take a bit longer than a normal transfer,as it has to first be verified, by a registered verifier.
Takes it from Prohib to restricted, then transfers to you.

It took me 4 months the last time I did it. Sounds like your good but will have to be patient.

**Edit - if you find yourself loosing interest PM me! Been looking for more Dan Wesson Revolvers!

Life hack: Get the certificate and serial numbers from the seller, call Miramichi and keep nagging at them. Eventually you'll get someone who'd be willing to transfer you to the lab in Ottawa, nag at them - they are the bottleneck in changing the classification. This can still take months but you will at least push things along. Once they are done it takes the usual time for _your_ provincial CFO to get the transfer processed. QC CFO will not be involved.

So to finalize this thread. I just yesterday got the transfer in my name. I paid for the gun end of June. N.B. took from Aug 22 till yesterday to do the transfer. So that is the story.

I can only imagine that as the years go on, more and more prohibs are going to go through this process, so the wait times will only get longer.
