Transfer times in BC

First call this morning at 9:30. On hold for 15 minutes and then done. 19 minutes total. Transfer Ref # 6037###, initiated Sept 20th. It really pays to call in.

Took < 15 calls this morning. On final one was on hold for 10 minutes and call got picked up.

She did the transfer in less than 2 minutes. Very pleasant and efficient interaction.

Ref # 6014###
Initiated: Sept 26th.

Number I was calling: 18007314000,1,,,,,,1,9530
(every comma adds a 2 second wait.)

Honestly, I am pretty sure everything will slow down soon.

I don't understand why they are doing it over the phone to the squeaky wheel.

I'll throw my 2c into the ring..

Private transfer successfully initiated June 24 (took about an hour of continuous calling to get through, for both of us).

Emailed the CFO in early August, politely asking for an update (no reply).

Emailed the CFO in late August, politely asking for an update.. received an automated reply, to the effect of "don't email asking for updates".

Received the Notice of Transfer Sept. 24.

Now the waiting game for the actual registration docs begins!

Hang in there fellas

Called in for an STATT today. Had a transfer that was started Friday approved today. Took 30 ish minutes of calling. I tried using the online portal to apply for the STATT but when it gives me a list of restricteds to choose from for the ATT application, it does not show the one the was transferred out of my name that I need the STATT for. Classic!

Question for all who have gone through the painful process. This is my first time purchasing/transferring. (Another eager beaver here)

I did get through to initiate the transfer (319 phone calls total) of 3 firearms and was issued a transfer number (603###X) on Sept 20th.

From what I understand, this is in the hands of the folks out East until it is approved then sent to the BC CFO. Is that correct? And if so, when do you typically see an update on the status of the transfer online? I imagine it takes some time for the system to recognize a transfer has been initiated.

I am seeing some folks say they are calling and calling and calling the CFO to have their transfer approved, which appears to be done super quick. I just got the transfer started, and they have the info they need from both myself and the seller so assume it has been or will be passed onto the CFO. Without calling, this will take a few (or more) months to be processed, is that correct (fine by me)?

But an alternative option is to get through to the CFO and they will approve the transfer via phone?

The transfer is initated at the CFP level, once both parties have called in with their details it is transfer to the CFO of the buyers province for approval. There is no 'status updates' rather it is waiting for approval until it is approved. If you are the buyer and you are located in BC, you can call the BC CFOs office and they MAY approve it, YMMV. Once approved you will receive an email with the the Buyers Transfer Notification. The seller should also receive a Transfer Notification.

Great, thanks for the info. I was fortunate enough to have someone from the CFP give me a call in response to an email I had with some questions. The transfer agent was not having a good day and told me to let the seller know they had to "Call them when they were in front of the firearms" and would not provide any additional options or info... No way was this gent going to go through the process.

The women who reached out in response verified them for me over the phone and had me scan and email a paper copy to her direct email address which she then passed on to the transfer department. The firearms had original registration dated back to 1991-1993.

Not sure how their transfer numbering system works as it appears some have lower numbers although it was processed after mine.. but the waiting game begins!

Do you typically see any info on the once a transfer has been initiated under "check status of registration application" on the individual web services? If so, how long does this take to populate?

i just discovered that if you goto individual web services and under apply for ATT, once you get to 3rd step where it asks you which firearms it shows a list of all the registered firearms under your name.

Thanks!

I am seeing "no registration applications were found" and a message saying "we indicate you do not have any restricted firearms registered to you", which is correct.

Is it safe to assume even though I do have a transfer number that the process has yet to be passed on to the CFO for some reason?

Yup, this worked for me about 10am this morning. Maybe 1/2 dozen "can't take your call" and a similar number of hangups. Then success! Super polite and efficient at the CFO end as well. These people seem to be the gold standard of public service. Polite and efficient for years, every time I've dealt with them, and even better it seems when vastly over-worked. Somehow, I'd love for them to get credit for their hard work.

It will not show up until it has been approved by the CFO of your Province.

Finally got through. Too about 100 times over 3 days. Got to be put on hold for about 10 min. Them quickly processed from there. Stage 1 complete. Now for the mail and the actual certificate. Which I don't understand can't be sent by email.

I completed another one today. Took 38 calls and got cut off twice but less than an hour later it was done.

Do it boys, take an hour off work, tell your boss you have an appointment at the bank or whatever, just get it done.

I wish I had your luck. I can’t get through or cut off. Last time 40 min then hung up on.

I had my share of wondering why I wasn’t getting through and thought i must be something wrong. My conclusion is that success/ failure is pretty random. Just be sure you are otherwise occupied when dialling so it’s less infuriating. Especially that “further strengthening Canada’s gun control laws” bit. Made me think “fk you” every time I heard it. It’s like salt in the wound, not being able to skip it too.
