Had 121 lbs of sorted lead wheelweights that i thought i should try my new melting pot out.
Never done this before(just watched youtube vids) , so made sure everything was safely prepped and laid out.
Done it in 2 batches.
Didnt have a thermometer, so just watched it closely, once it was liquid about half way up the weights, started to stir and push them down.
All the clips came clean to the top and skimmed off with a slotted spoon. had a few zinc ones that snuck in too, but skimmed them off.
Fluxed and skimmed a few times with some sawdust and some cheap dollar store small candles,, worked good
Ladled into ingot mould (i need to buy a second one), and had some hardpack snow nearby to set it in for 5 sec and turned out onto a piece of 2x10 wood scrap.
Ended up with 104 lbs of ingots when it was all said and done.
Should make me over 1800 12ga 7/8oz slugs. (got a lee 20lb production pot and 2 moulds on order)
It was a fun afternoon
Cheers
John
