Transporting and packing Geese in the truck

Seriously? Breast them and put them in the cooler. When was the last time you had your car searched? I mean I abide by the law as far as limits go but sometimes they go a little too far.....

I hear the area I am going has only 1 MNR officer for several hundred square KMs. Apparently with cutbacks they cant do a road block in this area now. Of course this wouldnt influence my decision to play road warrior..driving down the highway with a frozen goose strapped to the hood...:p

Its not wonder people say #### it and go to the super market!

It's neither difficult or a big issue. Breast them out, leave 1 wing attached until you get home then cut the wing off and the either cook or freeze the breast as is is or cut the meat off it and eat or freeze it. I dont know where you live but here in Ontario there is no priority on waterfowl any more, it is just not in the budget. Most charges result from guys being stopped during the moose season at roadblocks etc. I havent seen a C.O in 10 years at least on an opening day and that was the one day you could count on seeing them years ago. I rarely see them until moose season comes along and not being a moose hunter I never get checked on my waterfowl hunts during the moose season. Heck I dont think we have been checked 4 times since 1990!!

You gotta gut them and cool them in sept. Liquidfied goose blood is nothing you want to get acquainted with.

Even when it's snowing later in the season, I still gut them before hanging, you'll be surprised by how well the down insulates the body. 1-15 hours later when you gut them, they could still be steaming.

Just get'er'done

Coolers in the back of your SUV aren't reasonable grounds for a search so if you get pulled over just tell them to pound sand
In BC the COs have greater search powers than the RCMP,so I wouldn't suggest telling them to pound sand in this Province! Mur

sorry about the bird hitch post - already addressed. You also need to adress labelling. We work with CWS and the labelling requirements are very strict. Even with the wing, each bird is supposed to be labelled with hunters name and all licence numbers...our dnr has been very strict on this during roadblock checks etc. Just be cognizant of what you're transporting and how

This is only if you are transporting someone else's birds and that aren't with you.

Don't sweat it. If you know how to use a knife it's as simple as that Delta Waterfowl video shows. Takes a few extra seconds over just regular breasting.

On that note, I have hung birds in the shade for several days no problem. All this talk of gut them right away is nonsense. Gutting is nasty and unnecessary if all you want is breast meat.

That bird hitch looks really slick. I just can't see spending $130 plus tax and shipping. I don't think i would get my money out of it. Might not be that hard to make though.

Anyone have one that wouldn't mind making a paper template of the shape for me?

Anyone tried one of those bird hitch on honkers? Seems like you need to be popeye to do 40-50 birds.

Buddy of mine bought one 3 seasons ago. We tried it out right away and it hasn't come out again. It makes a bloody mess of your birds, yourself and all the area you use to clean them in. There is no structure left to the breast as it tears the rib cages to hell and you are left with a mushy breast with no body that is hard to filet afterwards. The thing is also freakin dangerous, you cant imagine how sharp it is and the serrated cutting edge is downright brutal. If you are not 100% focused on what you are doing you will lose some digits in an awful hurry. It is not something you want to be using while laughing and joking with the guys or after you have had a few sasparillas!!
And yes you have to be popeye to use it for sure, first time I tried it out I did two dozen geese and 15 ducks, I darned near pulled my arsehole inside out....a goose does not pull apart anywhere near as easy as a grouse. If they did we could do the step on the wing thing and save alot of time and hassle cleaning them.

And oh yes, it will not work if you have a bird with a broken wing as you do not have enough back bone left in the broken wing to pull the bird through it. The broken wing tears off instantly leaving you a wingless bird you have to breast in the traditional manner.

Useless Gadgets and gimmicks for the hunter... who would have thought?

What's wrong with a knife and a bit of practice? It's only worked for literally over 100,000 years.

LOL, so back to the usual suspects. MGD and pocket knife, my two bird cleaning buddies.

LOL omg sherlockbonez... I love the name. Makes me think of bad ####o movies... if there is such a thing.

Figure its some kind of bone collector thing but still... nicely done sir !
