What type of system do you guys use to transport a Derringer? Trigger locks are out:rolleyes: can I just double box it?(locked box inside a locked case) I am worried about damage to the finish ect. Any help would be great(pics too)

Double boxing it is no good. As said, a cable lock thru the barrel or a long shank padlock through the barrel is the way to go.

Will a padlock fit around the breech area when it's broken open and not slip off?

Yes but it will rub the finish if I did that. I am unsure of how to protect the finish using a padlock in this manner:(

Would plastic Zip ties through the barrel be a secure locking device?

I seen a guy at the range use a regular pad lock with a small peice of rubber hose slipped over it, he then put it behind the trigger on his 586, it worked good, no movement.

I know you cant use it behind the trigger but that should be a good way to protect it.

If I could find a rubberized padlock where the base and loop is coated in rubber I dont think the actual steel locking loop would cause any damage? See Pics... I know the Zip Ties would be ok as far as the finish is concerned other than me trying to cut them off:p

I just want to be able to have a secure but easy system....

There is also a product called "Liquid Electrical Tape" it is a liquid (vinyl or similar, I think) and leaves a plastic coating on things. If you degrease the shank of a regular padlock and paint or brush this stuff on then it will give some protection. I am not sure how durable the coating is against sharp corners. I think Princess Auto may carry it.

For a 22 derringer, I use a Frantzen combination cable lock through the barrel. The locking end did fit through the bore but it was tight. I filed/sanded it down now fits very easily. I prefer to have all locks keyed alike or use combo locks.

I bought them straight from the Manufacturer $20.00 plus a few bucks shipping. They are sold at Cabela's though. Maybe other places too.
Here's what they look like on the guns.

Thanks Mercury0 0 I think thats the winning combo right there! A low bulk camber/barrel lock that wont break the bank. A good lock for this use! Thanks again
