To lazy and busy to search.

When transporting a pistol, can I have loaded mags in the same case?

The case will be locked, with a trigger lock on the pistol.

pretty sure you can cuz that's how i transport all of my stuff (if you recall seeing my case-on-wheels).

to clarify - each gun has a trigger lock, and the (big) case-on-wheels (with guns, mags, ammo, other stuff) is locked. however, the guns are NOT in a separate case inside that case. my mags are sometimes loaded, sometimes not loaded - depends on what i had for breakfast 3 days prior.

i may have to double-check, but transport doesn't mention ammo at all...

Yes, provided that the firearm is unloaded and no loaded magazine is inserted into or attached to the firearm, you may transport, legally, loaded magazines in the same locked case as the unloaded firearm.

N.B.: It cannot be stored that way, legally, unless said case was put into a safe, vault, or secure room.

Storing Firearms Safely

* Unload and lock your firearms!
* Store the ammunition separately or lock it up. It can be stored in the same locked container as the firearm.

Transporting Firearms Safely

Restricted and prohibited firearms
  • Unload the firearms; and
  • Attach a secure locking device to the firearms; and
  • Lock the firearms in a sturdy, non-transparent container; and
  • Remove the bolt or bolt carrier from any automatic firearms (if removable).
  • Obtain an Authorization to Transport (call 1 800 731-4000).

Nothing about not having ammo in the same case...

so.....

I can have loaded mags in the same locked case but,

The pistol does not have a mag in it and

The pistol has a trigger lock on it and

The pistol is disassembled.?!?!?!?

F$%^ me! Why don't I just shove the slide up my a$$ and leave the mags at home?

Correct me if I'm wrong, as long as pistol is trigger locked (or made inoperable by another locking device) and is in a locked case; loaded mags and ammo don't have to be in a locked container while in transport.

Rather than just reading the tri-fold pamplet or watching the cheesy video, you should consider reading the regulations.

They really aren't that long.

No
Cuz it might not be quite as enjoyable as you think

trigger lock on pistol, loaded mag in same case as pistol but not IN pistol, case locked, ass empty. arrive at range, unlock case, pull out loaded mags and gun, remove trigger lock from gun, load and spray-n-pray.

The disassembled part is only for fully-automatic and converted automatic firearms.

(You probably don't need to worry about that.)

the irony being that the docs you linked don't mention anything about ammo in the TRANSPORTATION section.

Suggest you do so as well:

STORAGE OF RESTRICTED FIREARMS
6. An individual may store a restricted firearm only if
(a) it is unloaded;
(b) it is
(i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device and stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into, or
(ii) stored in a vault, safe or room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of restricted firearms and that is kept securely locked; and
(c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in
(i) a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into, or
(ii) a vault, safe or room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of restricted firearms and that is kept securely locked.

Trigger locked in a case with Loaded mags = OK.

TRANSPORTATION OF RESTRICTED FIREARMS
11. An individual may transport a restricted firearm only if
(a) it is unloaded;
(b) it is rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device;
(c) it is in a locked container that is made of an opaque material and is of such strength, construction and nature that it cannot readily be broken open or into or accidentally opened during transportation; and
(d) if it is in a container described in paragraph (c) that is in an unattended vehicle,
(i) when the vehicle is equipped with a trunk or similar compartment that can be securely locked, the container is in that trunk or compartment and the trunk or compartment is securely locked, and
(ii) when the vehicle is not equipped with a trunk or similar compartment that can be securely locked, the vehicle, or the part of the vehicle that contains the container, is securely locked and the container is not visible from outside the vehicle.

No mention about ammo at all for transport other than unloaded

We are not talking STORAGE, we are talking TRANSPORT.
It is legal to have a mag full in your unzipped pocket as long as the gun is trigger-locked and in a locked case in the trunk.

... or you can do whatever the hell you want, loaded and ready to fire, stuffed in your pants, safety off, and hope to hell that you don't get nabbed driving a One Shot Tactical truck to your fav range :p

Just to confuse things, yes it is legal for an individual to carry loaded magazines in the same case, but there are different rules for businesses. I don’t know what they off the top of my head, only that they are different. Would you be subject to the business rules?

Transport your ammo and loaded mags in the same locked case as your gun cause the regs say you can but if you get busted anyway we will all help you out as long as it doesn't cost any money.............:D
