Transporting pistols

I transport my mags loaded (usually) and in their mag pockets in range bag. Guns are trigger locked in a locked case.
But, if I go to USA to shoot, I dump all the ammo and loaded mags in a locked toolbox, as their rules are different and I wanna to comply to avoid any troubles. It depends on the state and may require ammo to be locked, check the rules and laws of the state you travel to.

I was wondering the same thing. The law only says: Firearm has to be unloaded. To me, a loaded pistol is a pistol with a full mag in it [and maybe a round in the chamber]. So full mags stored in your ammunition compartment should be fine imo.

I've just never done it just to avoid trouble in case I get inspected by a zealous cop.

The complete lack of knowledge displayed by some here is simply outstanding....yay gunnutz!!!!

I love how police get raked over the coals for not knowing all the firearms laws(in addition to every other law and statue they have to deal with on a DAILY basis, unlike firearms), yet firearms enthusiasts, who go on about knowing the laws better than cops, on this site can't even come to a consensus on how to transport or store within the regulations.

I echo Reaper, yay gunnutz!!!!

Seems pretty clrear to me!

TRANSPORTATION OF RESTRICTED FIREARMS
11. An individual may transport a restricted firearm only if
(a) it is unloaded;
(b) it is rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device;
(c) it is in a locked container that is made of an opaque material and is of such strength, construction and nature that it cannot readily be broken open or into or accidentally opened during transportation; and
(d) if it is in a container described in paragraph (c) that is in an unattended vehicle,
(i) when the vehicle is equipped with a trunk or similar compartment that can be securely locked, the container is in that trunk or compartment and the trunk or compartment is securely locked, and
(ii) when the vehicle is not equipped with a trunk or similar compartment that can be securely locked, the vehicle, or the part of the vehicle that contains the container, is securely locked and the container is not visible from outside the vehicle.

seems clear to me too! doesn't say anything about ammo, tropical fruit, or used diapers, so... i think you're good to stuff them all into the same case. basically, it doesn't say you CAN'T do it, and it says what you HAVE to do. the rest is wide open!

Well, I haven't read the regs in depth but from going over those convenient pamphlets and Canadian Firearms Safety books, I've never seen mentions of how to transport magazines and clips. They don't seem to care if they're loaded or not, just that you transport your firearms unloaded and locked.

It never hurts to be cautious though.

Man it was just a question...I transport that way sometimes. I depends if I am only bringing one box/firearm. If I am bringing a bunch I tend to have an ammo bag.

You can carry the ammo in the locked case or in your pocket, avoid the anal option suggested as it may cause the firearm to not cycle properly depending on the lubricity of the foreign material.
