transporting unloaded mags

I usually transport my unloaded mags under lock and key out of habit. However I never really found out if this is necessary. Figure this is a good place as any to ask so... When transporting unloaded mags do they need to be in a locked container?

Loaded or unloaded from what I understand they don't need to be locked up during transport.

A loaded magazine, not in the firearm of course, is just another way to carry ammo.

You can transport a loaded or unloaded magazine any way you want. IN your pocket, on your dashboard, clenched in your teeth....
