Trap and or Skeet

Trap and skeet are two different games. Trap generally favours a heavier gun with longer barrels and tighter choke. Skeet guns are typically shorter with more open chokes. So if you intend to shoot both games get a gun with chokes tubes and used modified or tighter for trap and nothing tighter than improved cylinder for skeet.
Most clay games favour longer barrels than hunting so I'd suggest 30" and you don't need 3" chambers as most clubs limit shooters to 2-3/4".
The best gun is the one that fits you. Depending on your price range you might start looking at the Browning Citori, Beretta 686 or the Fabarm Axis. Don't be in too much of a hurry to put down money on an o/u. Go out to the club and start shooting the gun that you have. Ask for other opinions and maybe even try a gun or two before you decide.

Best value entry level o/U is the Winchester Select Sporting.
You will shoot it untill you buy a Browning 625, Citori, or Cynergy, or Beretta 682. Then you will be looking for a Krieghoff or a Perazzi, or a .....new mortgage.

This is very true. Not mentioned is that trap guns generally have higher stock combs and are set with a higher POI for shooting at rising targets. Skeet guns are more neutral, as you shoot at rising, falling and straight crossing targets. I would suggest 28" barrels for a compromise gun as fast handling is very important in skeet and the loss of 2" won't hurt you much in trap, especially for 16yd singles and short handicap. If you are shooting long handicap, then you are already a skilled shooter and know what you want your gun to fit and work like.

Stay away from that Winchester Select Sporting. Not impressed with the ones I held at the range. A good used Browning Citori is still ten times a better gun to get you into the game.
