You are all probably tired of this question, but looking to take up trap and/or skeet; just haven't determined which yet.

Could those of you experienced at both make a couple recommendations of a shot gun and config that could work for both. I would appreciate a medium high and a high end recommendation.

any advice is appreciated

Thanks

A citori sporting will do both as will a citori skeet.

You are right a Citori Sporting will do all 3 shotgun sports just fine. But if you really want to get your scores up in Trap a gun with a higher POI will be a must. In trap you are shooting at a rising target. Where a built in lead is very helpfull.

Any of the sporting type shotguns with an adjustable comb will do.
That being said, I have seen more than a few shooters clean both games with an 870 or 1100 field gun.
Strangely enough, I don't think I've ever seen that with an O/U!

Kreighoff K-80, one receiver, two barrel sets, two butt stocks. True Trap and skeet versatility.
Excellent choice if you have $20,000 to spend. ;)

I shoot all the games and use guns in a sporting clays configuration which is more like a skeet gun. In that you are just starting out from the sounds of it I'd suggest a Beretta 391 Sporting to use for both games until you decide which one you like. Then buy either a dedicated trap or skeet gun.

Consider the Browning XT Trap with adjustable comb.....you can easily change your sighting picture for either skeet or trap....for a reasonable price at about $2650 new or $2000 used. The weight ( a bit heavy) allows for a smooth swing.
I have used mine for both and it is a reasonable compromise.

I shoot a Browning 525 sporting for both games and it works quite well. As others have mentioned a little higher POI would be useful for trap though. I hope to have an adjustable comb installed this winter to cure the POI. If you bought this gun with the adjustable comb you would be all set.

I have a Browning Lightning Sporting Edition that I've had a second set of barrels fitted to along with a Special Sporting stock. Use the high rib set for trap and the medium for Skeet and Sporting. Both barrels are 30". This was my first shotgun for sporting when I started playing the games ten years ago ans still no sign of wear on the gun.

Also picked up a very nice Special Sporting Edition off the EE last year with 28" barrels. Same gun as above just shorter barrels.

On the semi side my do all is a Benelli Special Sporting. Very pleased with that gun in Sporting, Skeet and Trap shooting. Easily changed out combs to adjust the height of the stock.

Beretta 391 Parallel Target. If I could own just one clay and hunting gun, this would be the one.

Therin lies my problem - I could never own just one clay and hunting gun. There are a lot nicer guns out there but I've bought, sold and traded and settled on the Browning O/U's and Benneli semiauto's ( supersport and super 90 )

Can only suggest, try as many as can that other people will let you shoot. Buy the ones that you think you want to keep and then keep on tradeing to find the one that you want and shoot well.

I would like to emphasize to shoot as many guns as you can until you decide which one fits and feels best..Most people at gun clubs are usually happy to let other responsible people shoot their guns for a round...

For a cheap yet reliable trap gun, (can be used for any clays game) don't overlook a 1100 remington, with a monte carlo stock, which will keep your head up and parellel which will allow target acquisition much easier..

Good luck in your decision
