Trap and Skeet, one gun?

No it's not....:D

Spoken like a true skeet shooter! Boring? I've used that expression as well, but only when I was unable to go straight:redface:

I never get tired of going straight at skeet or anything else for that matter. What I find boring about skeet is all that standing around while waiting for my turn to shoot. For me it is more fun when there is no more than two other shooters who are not afraid to burn powder:D

I would distinguish between 'just shooting' and 'competing'.

When just shooting, skeet isn't very exciting. You get the same targets in the same places..... and ya, a squad of 3 is plenty.

The competition aspect of skeet keeps it interesting for me. It is as much a mental game as it is a shooting game. That last low 6 in the 4th round when you are straight is a lot more challenging than a low 6 in practice.

Not missing after 100, 200 or 400 targets only makes it even more exciting.

Brad,
Of course you are right to distinguish between just shooting and competing. I never ever just shoot skeet anymore and in our area there is little interest in registered competition. Sometimes a couple rounds of skeet are part of a less formal competition and I really get into that. What I find useful is to shoot skeet targets as a means of practice. I usually do this alone, with my dear wife pulling targets for me. Sometimes I get together with a couple other shooters and play sidewalk skeet or follow the leader and with a couple guys I shoot with the competition is intense. I would be more serious about skeet if the was more serious skeet shooters in my area.

biathlonneil: You're right that Uncle Al is a bad influence, and don't you forget, your next time back here to see him, you and I have a bet to settle!! ;)

Any gun will work for all clay games, we have a guy at our club that has an old beat up single shot cooey and breaks 23 and 24's with it, and it doesn't matter if you are an occasional or dedicated shooter and shoot a $30 or a $10000 gun, it boils down to confidence in the equipment you take to line. If everything feels right, you will shoot good scores with enough practice. The problem is the same as say a snowmobile for example...once you ride that brand new machine it is hard to go back to the old beater sitting in the shed at home.....sad but true..If you are shooting a $500 gun and some kind person at your club lets you shoot his $2000 gun, and you feel the quality in his gun, how it feels and handles, and see how hard it breaks targets, then you go back to your gun, all you want is a gun like the one he has, and it goes on from there...but the bottom line is to have fun and enjoy what you have...

Another bad influence.........that Win/64 guy....:slap:

Maybe if he had a TM1 he would break more 25s:D beside that, everyone knows that those old beat up cooey guns do not have a high enough stock for trap:dancingbanana:

He doesn't even need a stock. He shoots from the hip. And it's a 16 Ga. :)

Maybe he should get in touch with Benelli or Winchester ... so he can get a fun job like Exhibition ("trick") shootersTom Knapp or Pat Flannigan.

At least he'd get all that hard to find 16 gauge target ammo free ! Sorry, have to give up that nast old Cooey though ! :p

What about a Remington 870 Wingmaster? It's considered to be an excellent shotgun but I noticed it's not used for these games. Is a pump shotgun uncompetitive or against the rules to use?

I have seen pumps specifically for trap. In fact, one of the guys at our club shoots skeet and trap with one. A month or so ago I was at a 5 stand match and a young fellow with a pump beat everybody. He was absolutely incredible to watch! (Bang/click,click/Bang, another double.) My dad had told me many years ago that a good man on a pump would beat a semiauto, but this was the first time I had ever seen it. In fact, I was so impressed I figured he had tuned the gun, but it wasn't so. He was a hunter by inclination, took good care of his gun and practiced a lot. He was up to practice before going on a hunt. Made my day talking to him. They are out there, that's for sure.
