Trap/Clay Club and Ranges for a beginner recommendations in BC?

I'm completely new to the sport of trap/clay and would love to try the sport out. My only shotgun is a remington 870 express with an 18.5 inch barrel and I know some clubs have rules for their trap ranges for barrel length.

Can anyone recommend a good club or range for a casual beginner looking to get into shotgun trap shooting?
I appreciate any advice you guys have, thanks!

I have been shooting Trap and Skeet at Mission and it is a great gun club to get you started with a shotgun. They have the voice activated traps and it make it easy to shoot on your own or join a squad. There is also twoonie shoots on Wednesday nights and I think a shooting league for trap shooters. Talk to the people there. They will be more than willing to help you.

Mission probably has the best trap facilities around. People show up with all kinds of shotguns.

If you want to do some low key beginner/novice trap practice in a small group, try Ridgedale Rod & Gun in Matsqui too. They have trap practices on various Sunday afternoons. There is one scheduled for this Sunday but best to check with the trap chair (his email is on the Ridgedale website to make sure it is still on). Bring cash though, they don't have interac like Mission does -cost is $6 for a round of 25 shots. Ridgedale is great for beginners at trap or pistol -they make everybody feel comfortable and there is usually a couple of spare shotguns there if you want to try something different than your own.

The best thing about belonging to one range in the valley is that your membership is honoured for trap at a few other ranges between Mission, Ridgedale, Chilliwack and one othe club - forget which other one at the moment.

Trap is a blast and very addictive. Love it.
 
Poco is good, but only runs twice a month. Vancouver Gun Club in richmond is good too, shotgun only, and runs sat and sun every weekend and some evenings in the summer. VGC does have a rule against short barrels tho.
 
If you live in the city VGC is your best bet, runs every sat and sun but they do have a restriction on length...

From the VGC website 'Only shotguns with a barrel length of 21 inches or more and exhibiting shoulder stocks are permitted'.

If your serious about trap my guess your first shotgun won't be your last. VGC is also affiliated with Mission R&G as well.
 
Does your shotgun have interchangeable chokes? If it is a fixed cylinder or improved cylinder, it's not a good choice for trap, especially for a beginner.
 
Not too sure where exactly in BC you're at, but if you're on the island, Courtenay fish and game has an outstanding shotgun facility. Shoots are on Thurs and Sun from 10am to around 2pm. The chaps at the club all seem to be really friendly, and the more experienced guys there are enthusiastic about teaching new shooters. The first time I rolled in and wanted to try out skeet (I had shot trap a couple times before, but never skeet), they hooked me up with an instructor who walked me and the mrs through all the stations, and gave great advice. He even let us try out his fancypants, ultra-deluxe, luxuriant wood stock, worth more than my car Beretta O/U. If you do go out there be ready to experience shotgun envy though. Most of the regular folks there have really nice O/U's, with the occasional autoloader. My beat up old Winchester model 50 looks even rougher when it's on the rack next to a Krieghoff, but it usually gets some attention and comments.
