I need to talk to someone with experience in setting up and running a league.

We are looking into starting a league and need insight into the things that work and the pitfalls.

TIA

Bill

Bufalobill: Have you looked into shooting ATA events? The ATA can sent you the forms, etc. and the rules are written and proven over the years, and it might bring in some shooters from other clubs!

I ran a league this year, however it was not team based it was individual and ran on a points system that I developed. I even built a spread sheet program to keep track of the points. It was the first year and there were only seven of us in it, however it was so well recieved that I will have no problem getting 20-25 guys next year. Pm me if you want the some details.

This would be a house league on top of our regular ATA shoots.

We are thinking three man teams, 250 targets with a 50 target per night limit. (We only shoot twice a week)

Run the league over 6 weeks for the spring session (til the second week in June)

This would be geared towards sponsored teams to try to get more people out to the club.

We are thinking about using ATA classes for a tournament at the end with handicapping to give every team a shot at coming in first.

We are hoping for 7-10 teams to start.

Comments???

Thanks guys.

I am not sure about how many you have shooting already but I think if you want new people out to your club your league should be geared with that in mind.

That is why I went with an individual/ points style league. I already new that the regular, hardcore PITA trap shooters would join the first year ( now some were already down in the states for the winter which I did not intend) and some recreational shooters would join. However, we have a large group of bird hunters/ receational shooter that shoot trap maybe once a month in the summer. These are the people that will probably join my league next year.

As a result more people will be shooting trap at our club next winter which was the goal. Just a thought.

Thanks Jacky,

That's completely the intent of this league. That and to get the Sporting Clay's guys to smash some targets at the Trap Club. There are lots of Sporting shooters around, but they seem to like the weekly competition aspect of the shooting.

There are also lots of guys that would hopefully come out to shoot in a "Non-ATA" type of environment. I have heard from so many guys that they would love to come out and shoot, but they aren't keen on shooting crappy scores in front of more experienced shooters.

We just need more shooters on the pads!!!!
