Trap range on property

I was wanting to get more opinions on the overall suitability of my property for trap shooting. I am on a 30acre plot in a rural area, neighbouring properties are larger and also designated rural.

I have a clearing in the centre of my property surrounded by trees, about a 50m+ diameter circle. Is it safe for me to shoot clays despite not having full line of sight of the drop zone? my property extends another 300m in the direction I want to shoot in. The way I see it, I am shooting target load, pointed above the tree line and own the entirety of the drop zone. There are no dwellings beyond it either.

If there are no bylaws against the discharge of firearms, and you have 300m in any direction that you might shoot, and no shot will leave your property, the biggest issue might be complaints about the noise.

If you want it designated as an official range you'll need to follow the rcmp template for the shooting you want to do.

If you don't want it to be official just be sure of the area behind where you are shooting and play it safe.

Keep this in mind when target shooting or hunting on your own property and you have karens and Kens living near by... it's called Swatting. The question is not if... it's when.

I found this info online which could come in handy...

Official Range Safety & Shot-Fall Zones
To guarantee public safety, organizations like the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) and the National Rifle Association (NRA) establish standard "shot fall zones" that exceed the physical travel limits of the pellets:
  • 200-Yard (600 Feet) Safety Arc: Allowed for fields restricted strictly to Size 8 and Size 9 shot.
  • 300-Yard (900 Feet) Safety Arc: Mandated for any fields where Size 7.5 shot is permitted, as well as general trap and sporting clays fields.

I appreciate all the information! Out where I am at - quite common for firearms going off. I also don’t plan on doing it every hour of the day. I was more so concerned about if someone questioned the safety of doing such activity on my property. By law states I can shoot between the hours of 0900 and 1900 - I don’t plan to shoot for hours and hours everyday so I am hoping the neighbours around can tolerate some here and there. My closest neighbours have my number, shouldn’t be any noise complaints happening without a civil conversation

No plans to make it an official range, just casual for now. I’d have to look at what that entails or if it’s worth doing

Excited to get my, new to me, Remington 1100 out there and be humbled by my horrible accuracy.
