Looking for a quality high volume reloader for 12 ga. trap. I have a MEC 600JR.
Its fine but to time consuming. Need something a little faster as I plan on shooting several thousand a season. Any suggestions ( brand model etc.) greatly appreciated

I'd buy 15 flats and consider it to be just as cheap and time saving if I was only going to shoot several thousand rounds of trap a year......popular feeling is that reloading in 12ga is hardly worth the effort, unless you have lots of shot on hand at a lower price than the current. Just my opinion.

The easiest transition is to another MEC either a Grabber or a 9000G. They are pretty much the same except the 9000G has an auto advance and the Grabber you have to move manually.

I have owned a 9000G for 13 years and it's loaded over a 100 thousand rounds. I can't complain about the loader but in the last year or so it's been acting up. I've replaced a few parts and it's back in operation for now.

Whether reloading is cost effective is another question. I still do it because I can load better ammo than the cheap factory stuff for about the same price. I also load to my own specs and prefer having the options to load 7/8s and other weight and velocity combinations that are not always available from the factory.

FWIW, I've been thinking about another loader. The Ponseness Warren 800 looks very interesting because changing the die head from 12 gauge to 28 is quite easy.

My vote goes for the MEC Grabber. The customer service from them is top notch. I have heard lots of horror stories about P-W service (or lack of same).

Did some figuring: Used the shotshell reloading cost calculator off "The Lost Target" Having bought my components from Wholesale Sports and loading equivalent to Winchester AA Lite Trap loads (1oz) I'm loading - before taxes and based on 15 cases (3750 hulls) for only $5.19/ box (25) OR $51.90 per case of 250. Wholesale Sports is selling Winchesters AA lite Trap Loads (actually all their trap loads) at $72.99 per case of 250.

I'm saving $21.09 per case. Multiply that by 15 cases equals a saving of $316.35.

I'd say it was definitely worth loading. in 2 1/2 seasons you could have a paid for a very nice progressive loader. What else can one do in the winter all winter?

shot shells

I buy Federal Tops guns for $60 a case taxes in at our gun club. Great shells
I shoot likely 5000 rounds a year. I just did the math and for me reloading is not work the time.
Most of the guys at our club that reload, do it so they can custom make there loads. Not much of a savings

I've owned & used the Mec 600Jr. ( 6 of them - no compalaints, but they are slow ) , a Grabber & a 9000G ... of the 3, the 9000G is the way to go for volume.

For the volume I've been shooting, I went to a Ponsness Warren 950 Elite about 10 years ago... great piece of trouble free equipment. A little pricey, but what the #@&* , it's made round to go round.

If I were to do it all over again, I would have bought the PW 20 years sooner ! ... and today, would compare the the available PW models with the Spolar, to see just which features I like . Both are fine reloaders.

I have used PW equipment for years and currently use a 900.
However the 900 has been converted to a 2000 and is now flawless.
Freight is only about 80.00 direct from the factory

For the money I believe this is one of the best loaders.
PM me if you would like more info.

You bet your ass its worth while. I am currently reloading for around $3.10-$3.25 a box. I gather my own lead with another fella and he makes shot.
I have a MEC 9000 hydaulic and it is awesome. I can load 100 high quality shells in about 20mins and that is not rushing at all.

I've loaded about 60 -70,000 rounds on my PW 900 with very few problems that weren't operator error and easily fixed. No problems with broken parts, etc. It is a bit spendy , but well worth the cost, also they don't depreciate very fast. In ten years time you'll still get damn near what you paid for it, and you will have run a damn good machine in the meantime.
