Just wondering if any of the local clubs allow non members to drop in and shoot Trap on Trap days/nights?
I’ve just arrived in the area and will definitely be joining somewhere locally but until I can get a membership I thought maybe drop in? We allow non members at 3 clubs I shoot at in the lower mainland of BC, so just curious

Stubblejumper runs the Camrose skeet and trap club, I'm sure he will be along shortly 🙂

I am the skeet chair at Camrose. We allow a non member to shoot three times as a guest, before requiring them to purchase a membership. We shoot Thursday at 6, and Sunday at 1, and targets are $7 per round, cash only. We have an electric gate, so guests must come with a member, or contact me through our Camrose Shooting Sports site, to gain access. We have a trap field as well, but it is rarely used, as almost all of us prefer skeet.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I’ve never tried skeet but I will definitely give it a go. I currently only have a 940 semi auto with me, what would be a good choke for skeet in a semi? I don’t have a skeet choke, I have a mod, would that work?

Throw in an IC, and you will be fine. Then come fall, you will find that you are in a great area to hunt waterfowl.

Sherwood Park Fish & Game Association is not far from Tofield. Edmonton Gun Club is also not too far, its located on the Edmonton International Airport grounds. EGC is not a cheap place to shoot though and they upped their non-member daily pass rate this year from $20/day to $30/day and that is before you ever purchase a round of trap. They also increased their membership from $250/yr to $300/yr for 2026.

At this point I will probably look at Sherwood Park and Camrose and make a decision between the two of them. I see Tofield has Trap and an indoor pistol range so I will definitely join there as it’s only 20k away. We aren’t fully moved from BC yet, still have our house in BC so I thought I would check out a few ranges during our transition period and make a choice as to what works best for us 😊👍

Camrose also has an indoor range, and archery, 100m rifle range, and 4 action bays. We shoot year round in Camrose as long as the temp is -10 or warmer. Sherwood park has 300m rifle, some other shorter ranges, archery, and if they can keep a volunteer to run it, they have trap. Sherwood Park has had some infighting among the executive over the past several years, and the previous trap chairs have left, so at times, there was nobody to run trap. I was a member there up until a few years ago, when many of us left due to the politics. As well, Sherwood Park only runs trap from May on until September or so.
Edmonton Gun Club is a nice facility, but expensive, if you are going to pay those prices, look into Beaverhill Sporting Clays near Tofield. Sporting Clays is much more challenging than either trap or skeet.

Excellent info, and has definitely helped me make a decision on which way to go, I have absolutely o use for power struggles and politics at ranges. Camrose sounds like it’s got a lot of what I’m looking for. I drove to Camrose yesterday and have to go again today, wasn’t a bad drive. The wife was rushed in to Camrose for emergency surgery from Tofield the day after we arrived here, so I will be doing the Riley to Camrose run for a bit here 🤷‍♂️
I looked at Beaverhill’s website, judging by the pricing Sporting Clays is a wealthy man’s game lol, but I’d love to try it 👍

All the clay sports are expensive any more but yes sporting clays is the most expensive between it, trap and skeet. As for EGC the only time I shoot there is for registered shoots not that they are cheap either but club memberships are not required for ATA members to participate at clubs hosting an ATA sanctioned shoot.

A few years ago, 100 target loads cost under $30, and 100 targets cost $20, for a total of $50. Now its more like $60 for the shotshells and $28 for the targets, for a total of $88. And of course fuel costs more to get to the skeet field. We are seeing some people giving up the sport, and some just shooting less, but it is effecting our membership numbers. On the other hand the number of sporting clays shooters at our other club is stable, or even increasing slightly.

As already mentioned by some (above), Edmonton Gun Club is available.
Now open Wednesdays and Thursdays 5-9, and Saturdays and Sundays 12-5.

A non member contacted us to shoot today, so I assumed that it might be edgy, but it wasn't. But the new guy did very well, had fun, and purchased a membership
I’m still in the process of moving, back in BC currently but heading back to Alberta on Wednesday. I’m hoping to make it out on this coming Sunday. Just picked up a skeet choke for my 940 so I should be good to go 😊
I will probably pm you later this week to confirm if you are good with that
Really looking forward to trying skeet 👍

Just let me know, I have guests wait at the gate, and I arrive at about 12:40 on Sunday. Once we start shooting at 1, I don't leave the field to go to the gate to let people in.
