Trap & Skeet Shotgun

Does it make you a better field shooter if the targets are registered ? How does targets being registered change anything? I have shot registered NSSA targets, and I shot in provincials, and I learned more about reading targets by shooting unregistered targets in our sporting clays league. Birds don't always fly the same speed and trajectory, so the more speeds and trajectories you practice, the better equipped that you are to shoot birds in the field.
Competition shooting drives perfection. So yes it makes you a better shooter.

Do you really struggle this much in the field?

What was the name again of that world famous practice shooter?

I am sure the birds will just fall out of the sky if a person waves his trophies or score cards at them. They will be honored to fall to a true champion.

Thanks for starting my day off with me laughing my ass offf. I wholeheartedly agree with your train of thought on this subject but I don’t shoot many registered targets anymore so unfortunately my opinion obviously doesn’t count!! Haha Didntshoot any registered targets this year. SHHHhhh don’t tell the birds cuz nether did any of the hunters present on. IMG_3085.jpegthis shoot. However , all have shot skeet and sporting over the years to gain skills to make them better wing shooters!

It sure does not make a better field or wingshooter in my opinion. I've shot trap, skeet and sporting with some amazingly good shooters of the clay games who struggled to knock down a duck or goose with any consistency. I've also shot ducks and geese with a few hunters that could knock down doubles and triples on ducks and geese consistently and couldn't hit a clay target to save their souls.
Being a registered clays shooter doesn't make you a better clays shooter either. Being driven to shoot better makes you a better shooter because you WANT to do better so you practice proper fundamentals and shoot guns that fit.
Being a registered shooter simply means you are willing to pay a membership and target fees to participate in registered events.

Geezus I never thought of that!! You mean I simply could have waived my ATA membership card or an old trophy at them? I feel like a dummy now having wasted so much $$ on ammo, decoys and scouting! Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated!!

I wouldn’t doubt with the proper set up good scouting and willing birds you couldn’t frisbee a ATA pickle plate and hit one.

Thanks everyone for their replies but we have got a little sidetracked.......

Still thinking about which direction to go (A400 Xcel Multitarget is probably still the favourite as it will feel most like my other A400 which is inbound now - work is complete and it was shipped today) but I like the look of the Beretta 688.

However, when I read up on it, seems like it is kinda a "Meh" gun and doesn't seem to generate a lot of love - is this accurate? Kind of an OK gun but not really good at anything?

I never shot a 688 or any Beretta O/U for that matter 😲 . But from the reviews I've seen they where positive. But that was when they first came out, its a Beretta so longevity shouldn't be a issue.
I did mount one in a shop and if I had the cash I probably would have gone home with it.

CHC said he did mount one in the shop and if he had the cash he probably would have come home with it ,I replied that is why I have a new Rizzini in the gun safe implying that I put it up and could not walk away :)
And at least 1/3 less price for the equivalent fit and finish of the Beretta. I'll take a Rizzini over Beretta any day. For me they fit better and are a much better value in fit and finish for the $.
