Trap & Skeet Shotgun

They are indeed sweet but frankly given the problems that the DT-11 has traditionally had and the service or lack thereof that Stoeger is giving these days my money would be spend with another manufacturer. Kolar and Kreighoff are in the same price range as the DT-11 and a little bit more money gets you into a Perazzi. In my opinion this is better value for your money.

I had to interact with Stoeger recently for a warranty issue and frankly they were as useful as a spoiler on a spaceship so believe me I get your point.

I plan to dabble in Trap & Skeet in 2026. At this point I am super green.

I have a good few shotguns but they are all semis and I sense that an over under is a better fit for this type of sport.

Can I start with a semi to see if it floats my boat? The barrels (~21") would be on the short side based on what seems typical (looks like most people are running 28" or 30") - is this a disadvantage?

What ammo is used for this? 7.5 birdshot? And what choke (guessing one of the tighter constrictions)?

Thanks in advance.
Absolutely. Our local trap club has a few teams using pumps and Semi-autos and they do just fine. Depending upon the level of shooting you aspire to, you may want to pick-up an O/U eventually.

Already there, I bought a 694 Pro with TSK at the end of last week.

I had planned to use my semi but the local club doesn't allow any barrels shorter than 28". Your club sounds more open to getting new folks into the sport.

I am only guessing here, but shorter than 28" on a practical level would not be great on a trap range at longer distances. Most trap clubs do not allow tactical shotguns.
There are a lot of clubs that restrict length to 28”, but there are still some that don’t care. I shoot Trap at 3 clubs in the lower mainland, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Agassiz. All three have no restrictions on barrel length, I’ve seen 14” tactical shotguns out there lol. I kind of like the idea of challenging yourself with a less than ideal tool for the job, and have shot more than a few rounds with an 18 1/2” barrel and red dot on it just for fun. Each club has its own rules and as long as everyone is on the same page it’s always a good day 😊👍

Something is awry with retail in my Canuckistan, I can scoop a DT11 here in TX for a touch over 11K and probably better after showing that one was serious…..,,

I suspect the drop off in the value of the Canadian peso against other currencies (namely the Euro in this instance) is at least part of the issue.

It seems raising one's elbows does nothing to alleviate higher prices due to poor government policies and ever increasing debt.

We don't have a minimum barrel length at our club, but what we do not tolerate is more than one round being loaded at a time on either the skeet or trap fields unless doubles are being shot and if a person sweeps people with the muzzle once he will be reminded about muzzle control- empty gun or not .The second time he will be told to leave .
It has happened more in my experience with people shooting hunting guns with longer barrels than tactical type stuff, those guys are normally 3 gun shooters who ate IPSC qualified

At our club, shooting skeet, the only station that we do not allow loading both barrels is station 8. All other stations are OK when shooting the singles.

I should have been a little more clearer in that, sorry, I meant singles in trap and two on the skeet stations not full mags on pumps or semis.
Many of us shoot doubles all the way around on skeet including Staion 8 so two are always loaded .
