Trapline Northern Alberta

Here are a few pictures from my Trapline in Northern Alberta 2024/25 season.
Humane catches, Lots of snow, cold weather.
Perfect winter.

I think Lynx and Marten are a decent price but Coyotes are in the toilet.

Describe your marten sets please. I see a box, but don't know enough about the critters to follow.

I use different styles and sizes of boxes with different sizes of traps to ensure a humane kill, also helps protect the bait from birds etc.

Describe your marten sets please. I see a box, but don't know enough about the critters to follow.

Its called a box set. Basically an elongated box with only one opening. You put the bait (meat) in the back and a Conibear killing trap in front of the entrance. The animal then has no choice but to go through the trap and to get to the bait .... and while doing this triggering the trap.

There are commercial boxes that you can buy or trappers make those boxes themselves.

That thing looks huge. How much do you think it weighed? I didn’t think they got that big.

I didn't wieght it but it was as heavy as the Lynx.
Trapline is south of GP

That fisher tho !!!!! Hollee frig ! I worked a few winters in GP. Loved driving and lookin for wildlife on my days off ! Emerson Trail was on of my favs !
