Does anyone know how I can get a trapping licence in Ontario? What is involved in getting a trapping licence in Ontario? Couldn’t find any contact information on the MNR website.
Is there a website or a phone number?

I would love to take it. I was signed up for it years ago, and it was cancelled due to lack of enrollment. I probably would neve trap. But still would love to go through the course.

Dave.

Funny, I was looking into it too. The phone number is 705-254-3338, but I couldnt get anyone on the line last week. But, I just got lucky. I just got a number, and left a guy a message that is looking to put a course together, and as soon as I hear back I will post what I fund out. I dont want to post the guys name and phone number on a public forum, but if a few of you GTA and east (the guy is apparently in Manilla) want to call him, maybe we can fill a class. PM me, and I'll give you his info.

You take the course (40 hours) and then set up a trap line, I know some guys around here have some land use permits from the government and setup their cabins on it for trapping use.

where can i sign up for the course, where is it and how many times a year do they have it?
hope its not like the turckuy one. only 3 times a year.

There are usually quite a few per year but they are mostly held in the North where most of the demand is. According to the Ontario Fur Managers Winter newsletter there are a few courses in S Ont.
Niagara in February 2008, contact is Stewart Frerotte, 905-356-3784.
Renfrew in Nov, Dec and Feb 2008, contact is Ron Dershane 613-432-9656
Tillsonburg, when required, Peter Dale, 519-877-2513

I would suggest you thoroughly read the www.furmanagers.com website so you have some idea how licensing and trapping works in Ontario.

I took the course a few years ago and trap on private land, I got 25+ beaver this fall, 1 timber wolf and a few pine marten so far this winter. Getting a crownland trapiline can be tough as there is usually a waiting list and you have to have a number of years as a licensed trapper before you are likely to be successful applying for one. You also have to actively manage the trapline every year.

There are two courses being run and starting Jan 16, and 17th.

Call Ed@ 705-357-1811 to register.
Im in for the thursday Jan 17th.
