I am thinking of picking up a couple of 220 conibear traps for Raccoon control on my property.
I want to build a box and take care of those guys for good.

I am sick and tired of cleaning up after raccoons! Yet another mess and pile of $hit on my deck this morning.

I have had it. This is war on Raccoons.

A trapping license is probably required and I don't know a supplier who would sell you certified traps without a trapping license.

Trapping with un-certified traps if you aren't a farmer is a no-no.

In Ont you can go to your local hardware store and buy a "live" trap.
As long as you do not relocate the critter farther than 1 km,
it is legal without a trappers licence.
A trappers licence (or small game if its "coon" season) is required if the racoon will be killed.

The object is to get rid of it, not to give it a little exercise.:)

You can destroy the animal legally if it is causing damage, or is about to. (if you own the house)
Coons need heat to crap, typically they will find something that will retain heat after the sun goes down, a rock, roof, deck.. Plop their bellies down and it starts the cycle.
Borrow or rent a live trap, use a pickled egg, then destroy it.
Where do you live? I have about 300 cages, would be happy to lend one out.

I am using a havahart, They are getting smart with it though. A few minutes ago I baited it for tonight by tying a partially open can of sardines to the trigger. I think it will work better.

I don't want to have to relocate them... I only have a car, and I am NOT putting a live raccoon in my Audi, even if it is in a cage.

I will put it in a bag though.

They are attracted to my Big Green Egg.
It isn't possible to clean the smell out it that thing! The ceramic is saturated with meat drippings.

I would rethink the sardines. They are very effective to catch stuff, but the scent will travel for such a great distance that you will end up bringing animals to your trap that wern't there before. I use pickled eggs because they work, everytime. The scent is minimal but carries far enough to attract your target animal without bringing in skunk/coons/possums from the next area code. As a bonus, the vinegar in the eggs helps keeps cats away from your cage.
I have been trapping coons in live traps for 15 years, full time.
