Travis Haley's Opinion of the Tavor . . .

Had to laugh at that tvp.
My god, how WAS Haley able to do mag changes so fast when he just picked the weapon up for the first time. And his designer must-have jacket! I call him Travis, by the way. Tee hee hee, giggle giggle giggle. (face reddens with love for the man).

Oh, brother! lol

The Tavor is so 5 years ago.

Just out of curiosity how long does it typically take for a new firearm design to be fully accepted by the combat fraternity? Instantly, 1 yr, 2 yrs, 5 yrs or 10 plus years? there is an answer.

They are like cars, once they are pulled from production and time is allowed to do its work, the true qualities surface.

The Tavor may be passé to the cell phone crowd, however in the combat world things are just now beginning to heat up. The next 10 years will be telling.

I have an Arcteryx Beta gore tex jacket and it is made in CHINA.
80% of the Arcteryx Gore tex jackets I looked at 1.5 years ago were all made in China.
There is a few odd jackets that are made in Canada still.

Depends on the year. My first Beta AR was Chinese. My current one is Canadian. No difference in quailty that I can tell. They sure take a beating. Worth every penny.

Arent people capable of forming their own opinions?

Yes, it's just a lot of the time they form opinions based on complete random crap. Like the "I shot 1600 rounds through my Tavor in 3 hours, it must be the most reliable gun on the market"

However taking the word of someone in the know, who has the real world experience, and combining that with your own feelings to get an informed opinion is valuable when you have none of that real world experience yourself.

Example (and no offense to TV PP):

TVPP Tells me the Tavor is awesome, and reliable and great to use. I believe him, and I trust he believes what he is telling me.

Now in Contrast, Travis Haley tells me, the Tavor is awesome, and reliable and great to use. I believe him, and I trust he believes what he is telling me, I just put a lot more credit to his words about reliability, and ease of use, as he has the real world experience to compare too, and TVPP does not.

It isn't a slight towards anyone, it's just reality.

But that's my problem. He probably shot a lot less then anything that would tell him if it's a reliable 'worthy' rifle. Im not saying it isn't. I just find it humarous that people will just go along with it because He liked it. He likes it compared to what? The Aug? Other Bullpups? Throwing stick?

To each their own I suppose. It aint my money.

Just I hear a lot of stories and threads "Hey I bought X because I saw it on a video, and I don't like it" and I just wish people wouldn't buy into "operator X said it's great" stuff

People listen to Haley because he has earned their respect. I don't think he was giving the tavor his unconditional seal of ultimate battle proven rifle seal of approval. He just kind of liked using it.

The thing that makes it a bit interesting to me is just the fact that he didn't find its drawbacks sufficiently problematic to interfere with his operation of the gun.

It's a bit like if he ran an Stg44 for a bit in a class and came back and said, "actually pretty awesome!"

I mean obviously there are downsides but it's sort of interesting that he found it as workable as he did.

Guys, to be honest, I don't even know who T Haley is. I do know who Haile Selassie is though. If either fellow shot the rifle and made a pronouncement on it I'd take both with a grain of salt. Reviews are great but the only way to really appreciate the rifle is to handle and shoot it if possible before purchase.
I'd rather have the AUG as it has been in service with many nations for quite some time now. It seems more streamlined and far better balancedto me. If only a semi-automatic version of that were made...I have only handled the AUG along with the FAMAS and L-85 but have shot the Tavor. I didn't care for the bulk and balance.
Having said all that, I could come to like the Tavor if I owned one.

Not all bullpup triggers suck.

And who's to say at this point that the Israeli military didn't go out of their way to put an extra heavy trigger in there for safety reasons in rifle that was bound to be carried around a lot by off-duty personel?

Which one sucks less in your opinion? And by that I mean that it's even comparable to a standard, mil-spec AR trigger.

I sure hope that wasn't a stab at me in the beginning. Nowhere did I claim the Tavor was the most reliable firearm on the market. I decided to shoot the heck out of it and let everyone know how it went... That was kind of low..

Christ almighty. It might be better than the Tavor, but it ain't no AR trigger that's for sure !

Most bone stock issue type ARs don't have a particularily good trigger, real USGI triggers can be as heavy as 8.5 lbs and still be within spec.

Even just comparing to civilian semiauto triggers, well, let's say there's a reason that Geissele and others manage to stay in business.

um...welcome to 1985?

The Steyr AUG has been made and exported in semi auto since at least the early 1980's. Seen at least 3 in Canadian's collections. I believe they were listed among the 25 banned guns during the big change...so if anyone still has one, I'd guess they'd be Prohib.

They're prohib apparently some guy used it to rob a store in Calgary in early 90s giving the liberals the excuse to ban it.
