Has everyone seen this warning enough !

Just to add to safety once again,

August 19th - I fell from a ladder stand 15 feet up as I lost grip at the top and hit the ground, without a safety harness while bear hunting. The scare was something and it happened so fast, but luck was on my side and I walked away with some leg problems but lived and recovered well.

TONIGHT - I owe special thanks to Summit Tree Stands for their (seat-of-the-pants) safety harness and Tree rope wrap as I was bear hunting in the rain and was shifting feet 20 feet off the ground and GUESS WHAT ! YEP !

I fell once again and this time I had the harness attached to the tree and I stopped in mid air ! Yep about 18 feet off the ground hanging as Dan Thomson of Dufferin Outdoors stood on the ground looking up amazed. He and I could not believe it happened, let a lone the second time in a month.

WARE YOUR HARNESS GUYS ! Its for you to not get hurt. I'll never leave the ground without one again !

I had a nasty accident a while ago using homemade equipment. Never again, if it ain't manufactured by a reputable company I won't use it. When it comes to safety harnesses I was amazed when I read some U.S stats on how many injuries and deaths were attributed to falls out of tree stands. Falling from 15+ feet ain't no fun.

Ive done it while pruning a tree..no fun as I was coughing up blood for a week and had neck pain for awhile .

For my bolt on tree stand I use screw in steps so I use a prussic loop secured to my harness and that is attached to a length of rope with a double wrap prussic knot , the knot will slide up the rope that is anchored above my stand and hangs down the tree . So now I am secured to something at all times , even while climbing.

I also have a Summit climber and use a harness in it as well. And dont forget to secure the top section of the climber to the tree with a ratchet strap once you get up.....I forgot to once and scared the crap out of myself when the top section moved when I was hunting from a standing postion .

I know of a few hunters in this area who were seriously hurt from a fall , one is a quadrapalgic now.

I have fallen twice over the years. Once climbing down after installing a stand and once climbing up to a stand when I had mud and wet leaves on my boots. I was lucky both times and walked away with just bruises. These days I only use good quality ladder stands and ALWAYS fasten the safety harness.
