Tree stand thieves

Well even owing private land doesn’t keep people off or from doing something illegal. I remember the guy someone caught cutting trees off someone else’s property. He said he thought it was crown, well buddy it’s illegal to cut trees on crown land as well.
Below are two pictures of guys on ATV’s on my 60 acres. The land is posted very well, especially by ATV trails that are blocked by logs. My stand is not up but against a tree right by the trail they went by. Nothing was stolen when these pictures were taken this time.
Also at the back near a neighbours place by a swamp someone cut down a bunch of trees in the winter. I will be going back shortly with the OPP to see if someone stole the wood and left a good trial or have planted some pot.

Good detailed pictures (Plate number, face, ATV model...). If it was my neck of the woods, a few ugly large guys would be knocking on their doors within 48 hours!

I have learned they get the message really quick and move their operations somewhere else. ...and they usually tell their friends too. It works the other way too. When i bought my newest property (absent landlord for some years) ATV riders and other trespassers had basically claimed it for themselves. a few fancy moves like the above ....and done. :D

Befriend a bee keeper on your property......They are good people and bee's still scare the hell outta people. Friend of mine did this to keep "ramblers" from trekking thru his property all the time.
Amazing what some yellow and red bee signs do to the self-entitled bastards that like to steal.

i had a tree stand built out of lumber years ago. i used 2x4 for steps to get up to it . believe it or not someone actually took the steps off of the tree .

Thats what I use as well, I have a few built around the property, once someone showed up and smashed one to pieces on me.

I have not lost a treestand yet, but saying that I very rarely leave them in the woods. The 4 wheeler problem in private land is a huge problem. I own a 4 wheeler, and barely use it, because I simply won't ride it on others property without permission, and refuse to ride it on conservation lands that are clearly marked "no motorized vehicles". This stuff burns my butt. Properties everywhere are getting torn to shreds by these #### heads.

A good trick I used to stop one local from driving all over peoples property around my place was I put up a sign on a spot he entered private property often. Put his name right on the sign, "(enter name here)and family, Keep off this property or you will be charged, use your 4 wheeler to destroy your own property". It stopped him immediately, with his name on the sign, there was no doubt we knew who he was.
The same works when you find dope growing on your property, if you know who it is, (cameras work to identify the jerks) put up the sign, with their name on it. They won't be back.

If you find the "dope" on your property, then it's Your dope, why tell anyone!.. (obviously I know why) but if it's ripe for picking...well.. :D I remember finding all kinds of pot plants growing in the woods as kids. Fun times for all :p

I've had two hang on type stands stolen.

I started putting up the stand AND taking it down EVERY time... I just hid it nearby under some bush...

We now run a couple ladder stands... Hoping they don't get pinched because it is WAY HARDER to hide them even if you take 'em down!

IMHO, a good trail cam, hidden well, would be your best bet to secure your stand... At least them you would have pics of the a$$hats stealing your stand!

Cheers
Jay

Get a portable welder and weld it together on site. Too big to transport it will stay. Or use something to keep bolts from being undone, thread locker or long bolt and bash it with a hammer so it will never unthread

I put my ladder stand up -- two weeks before season and take it down as soon as we fill out tags.

I bought 8 feet of heavy chain from Crappy Tire and big padlock.
I wrap the chain around the lowest section of the ladder stand and padlock the ends of the chain
together.
I'm on my Dad's farm and haven't had a problem yet.

ya all hunt to close to the city if your having this kinda problem.

I agree.... Never had a problem in sw On where we hunt deer (and near our duck pond) Up north, Ive found where I go , people are pretty good at leaving other peoples stuff alone..... Hope I can keep saying this...... mind you, if its easy to move.... take it out with you.....

Even though I hunt Private property...theft and trespassing is a huge problem. Switched to a climber years ago...now I would never hunt with out one.

PLEASE wear a safety belt no matter what kind of tree stand you use

Would a stand be likely stolen or damaged if there was no way to it? Say you used a set of spurs to climb and set the stand up some 30-40 ft off the ground?
Or would people still find a way?
