MICHAEL SOULIERE of Schreiber pleaded guilty and was fined $2,000 for trespassing to hunt, $1,500 for shooting from a roadway, and $1,500 for abandoning a deer and allowing it to spoil. Souliere was also given a two-year hunting suspension.

Court heard that on November 23, 2017, conservation officers responded to a complaint received on the TIPS line about a man shooting from a roadway at a deer on private property in the Quibell area. An investigation determined that Souliere had fired three shots from the traveled portion of Highway 609 over a fence, killing a deer on private property. The property was clearly marked with a “no shooting” sign. Souliere then left the scene in his vehicle, abandoning the deer.

Justice of the Peace Daisy Hoppe heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Dryden, on April 5, 2018.

Don't know about Ontario, but here in Alberta, no signage is necessary on private property, to disallow trespassing.

Grizz

Why would the idiot shoot something like a deer to just kill it then leave it in the field. instead of dragging it and taking it home . I guess I hit the nail on the head . IDIOT.

What a horrible thing to do. It honestly amazes me that people act this way. There was a group of young adults in my area that were caught with almost a dozen deer in their garage and half of them were spoiled. They were charged, fined and then felt the need to complain and act like they were victims. It's disgusting when people behave like this, they disrespect the animal and they disrespect fellow hunters.

I have had numerous issues with trespassers. They keep coming on to my property despite signs and fences. The OPP and MNR are good about issuing tickets to them.

how much of a nut job do you have to be to shoot over the fence into someones property and top it off, NOT take your bounty?he shouldn't have a gun period-bad for regular hunters--i guess the first cousin thing didn't work out to well....

No signage needed in Ontario either....the property was fenced, that was enough notice, the signage was extra warning....

The Trespass to Property Act and The Occupiers Liability Act give clear regulations as to fencing and signage requirements for all types of property in Ontario. In most cases, clear signage is necessary for charges to be laid.

Well - He was obviously caught by someone. He was probably in the process of extricating the deer when spotted, then bugged off... Witness called in the licence plate.

Timely post-
Down under you guys would lose your ####, especially goin off some of these posts.
I for one an having quite a rough time with a legitimate trespasser and illegal harvest spotlighter for the big deer we hunt down in Victoria... he is notorious yet unfortunately has 'made friends' with several young guys in town and they show him 'all the good spots' an he later goes an poaches ......

but heres the thing, he has been Caught doin the deed in another state NSW court took along time to finally make a verdict which was "guilty" of this #### right, yet we the public havnt heard exactly which they pinged him for however..................... it means nearly F.A as he is still actively poaching throughout Victoria to this day----- it grinds my gears something fierce an I try to make the community aware at the risk of being 'that guy' in the area BUT F them all......

He will get some minor Costing charge id assume an not be allowed to hunt in nsw, yet I'm not sure if any of this carries over into Vic- so fingers crossed more people use their Phones to ring in these matters and eventually he needs to be caught out again, the day is coming.

Rant over- just ####in annoys me tooooooooooooo wits ennnd
