TRESPASSING Turkey Hunters

My very same problem.....

If you are trying to hunt in an area you don't know, get yourself an RM map and a GPS. With these tools, you will know who owns the land you would like to hunt on. The RM maps usually show the locations of farms and dwellings.

To blindly stumble forth, hoping to find your private hunting spot in the GTA is a waste of time. Contact the landowners.

Turns out our trespasser had enough nerve to write the land owner a letter detailing how he has been "patterning" the turkey since January using blinds and decoys not to mention calls. He further detailed how the turkeys have changed their schedules and appear to abandon their old routes.....gee I wonder why??? He admits to the trespassing and "refurbishing" of old blinds in this letter. Just for the fact that this jerk has educated and harassed our flock of birds over the last three months and probably completely messed our season up this year.....he deserves a kick in the nads.

Basically he was trying to justify his trespass and sell his activities to the land owner as a hobby which he has invested a lot of time in. The land owner was still very much unimpressed and advised me to press charges if he is caught on the property again. I now carry the regional police phone number and MNR phone number in my wallet. The MNR would love to charge this guy but at this point my hands are tied by the landowner who doesn't want to start a war with a neighbour.

letter detailing how he has been "patterning" the turkey since January using blinds and decoys not to mention calls.Under the hunting regs, this is considered hunting.

Send a copy to the MNR and have him charged with hunting out of season!!!!

HUNTING:
Includes lying in wait for, searching for, being on the trail of, pursuing,
chasing
or shooting at wildlife, whether or not the wildlife is killed,
injured, captured or harassed. You need a hunting licence to do any of
these things, except where the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act states
otherwise

I blocked his car in and threatened to let my mastiff out to chew on him for a while.
I made him walk all the way back to my house and get a shovel and then stood there while he dug an unnecessarily large hole

After that harrrasment lucky he did'nt smack you in the knee with that shovel. I would have and then had you charged with forciable confinement, uttering threats and anything else the CC would allow for.

I wouldn't worry about him "educating" the birds before season. Pretty soon the toms will be all fired up and won't have anything on their mind besides spreading their seed. If you got decoys and can call half-ass they will be on your jake decoy like white on rice during the opening day.

Can i ask where this is?? north of brampton like caledon area???

I have to disagree with that. Fired up or not, the older a bird gets, the smarter it gets. Turkeys dont often make the same mistake twice. SO, sure we could shoot jakes all day, but that's boring, and anyone can do that. This property has some big birds, and is the place where I seen the biggest bird I've ever seen. Birds worth shooting are like big bucks.
they dont mess up often.

Its worth the drive to _ _ _ _ _ :D

Why is it that people who are in the wrong ALWAYS need to come up with some lame legal stuff to counter threaten when they are in the wrong in the first place?

I know you all are talking about private land, but I've run into similar problems on public land. If I'm driving out to some spot I like and see somebody else already parked there, I just keep on going or turn around. I've been parked in a dead end logging road before, and gone out to glass and do my thing only to have some jerk come up the road in a dang diesel and sit there idling for 10 min before turning around. If ya figure another hunter is in the area, be polite and keep going or go the other way.
Couldnt agree more. Or either what I will do if they are hunting geese or something like that and I can see them and easily get to them. I will go and talk to them and find out if they want company, or find out where they will be later on. This is ONLY on property that I have permission to be on as well. More often then not, if they have permission to be there, I have permission to be there we all seem to get along.

RM map?? I don't know this term. Is it like the TOPO maps?

I have driven several "back roads" throughout York Region, and knocked on several doors. I've been turned down flat every time. Reason are: I don't agree with hunting, I've let hunters use my property before and they always leave a mess, (and the one I like best) the hunters chewed up my fields with their pick ups and ATV's.

I'm getting discouraged. That, on top of the fact that it's my first year and I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing, what to look for, and how to ask.

More likely you would be charged wiht assault with a weapon, and pooping on private property!

:p

As for the fellow who had the hissy fit about someone haveing to take a dump on his property.... Get a life. Someday you also might have the same problem. I am sure if he could have waited he would have. Have some sympathy. The guy got caught in a bad spot, and all your interested in is weather or not he is "trespassing". Who amoungst us hasent been hit with that strange warm feeling at JUST the wrong time. Your lucky it wasent me who you caught. Becouse it would have got ugly.
Give your head a shake.

Try charging the next cop that stops you speeding etc. for forcable confinement... See how that works for you bud, you wouldnt have a leg to stand on legally.
and you basically have the same powers of arrest.

JAmie Hunt,

This is for you pal. If you care to re-read and digest what was written about the trespasser taking a dump. I think you will find that this act was done in a food plot no more than 40 yards from a very obvious hunting blind close to, if not during the deer hunting season. A steaming human turd in the middle of your plot and hunting area will certainly negatively effect your success. So give your eyes a rub and edit your comment to be a little more respectful.
