TRG22 vs PGW Coyote

The TRG's are an extremely impressive platform. Their ability to digest anthing you feed them and turn that into sub .5moa groups is un-matched. That said, I'll agree that the price of the TRG is starting to get ridiculous. A local dealer has the 22 priced at $4200 and the 42 at $5400. What a rip-off (wont mention the $6k TRG42 at....) Do yourself a favor, if you decide on a TRG get Clay at Prophet River to import one for you. Well worth it!

As far as the PGW Coyote goes, I'll say that one of the most impressive displays of shooting I've witnessed was when a buddy uncased his 7WSM Coyote plunked it down on its bipod, dialed his dope, and sent 4 consecutive shots into about a 4-5" group at 1100m. Cold bore, no dialing in corrections.

Whichever you choose you can't go wrong.

I was there with Marcoman when the Coyote was pulled from it's bag, and 1st 4 shots "rang" the gong - I was speechless. That Coyote shoots the lights out... Ross is awesome to deal with as has been mentioned a few times. I have a PGW LRT-3 in 50 BMG, and just love PGW's rifles.

everyone charges a fee except for Irunguns for rifles they have in stock in the USA. do you really think there will be much savings after you factor in exchange rate and fees on $3600 usd?

Which in this case, they carry neither Sako or AI so they'll charge you $200 to do the import providing you buy the rifle upfront from the originating dealer in the US. Might not be worth the hassle to import depending on how good of a deal he can swing on the TRG.

This was the item i was looking at through gunbroker. And i noticed this was actually in the irunguns store. which was odd because it wasn't on their website. Also what i thought was good about it was that it came with a $700 bipod. Thats what i was thinking made it a deal. But I dunno. Like i said i'm going to wait for Prophet river arms. If it ends up costing me too much then i just simply won't do it if its only going to save me a little. I'm hoping i hear from Ross soon too but it is the holiday season and i know ppl have been on vacation.

Lol, Sylencer -if you are in a real rush to buy I will sell you a PGW Coyote in 308. Approx 228rds down the pipe and Comes with the folding chassis, NV rail, 5 Mags and a extra unused 18" Kreiger barrel (fitted and threaded for the same MB) All for the $4800 sale price you mentioned earlier. Better gun at a wicked price. :D

If I had that kind of money to spend on a rifle, I'd seriously consider an AI AE MkIII. They're reportedly as accurate as the TRG and are a very durable design. A major plus is that they use AICS mags that are considerably less expensive than the Sako mags and you can use the much more common and relatively inexpensive Harris bi-pods.

The Coyote is no doubt a fine platform as well but is considerably more money. Whatever floats your boat. You can't go wrong with any of them.
All the AI stuff should be getting cleared out for the new models so that is a good option, Wolverine had the AX series on sale for 2k or so cheaper recently.

I was looking at the AX but went a different route after reading about a few people having issues with scope mounting and getting good cheek weld, but other models don't share that problem from what I have read.

OP..depending where you are in Ontario, Epps has a Stealth in stock albeit a bit more $$ than the one out west.

Ross will return your email in good time...I wouldn't do anything until you talk to him if you are serious about a PGW.

I have owned Sako's in TRG 21, 22 and 42, I have friends that own 22s and 42s and they ALL shoot. I can't figure out how Sako can produce that many rifles and they all shoot basically whatever you feed them. The TRG 22 is a phenomenal platform both in function and form that works and works very well. I have shot(as well as others) ladder tests at 300m with a 5 grain total difference in charge weight that measure .75 moa!

Having said that I also own a Coyote that is no slouch itself. I have shot it out to 1300m getting .5 moa when conditions are good and have done even better than that on a couple of lucky days. *NOTE* I have had many dealings with Ross and have been treated like I was his best customer since our very first conversation. He is a great guy and builds awesome rifles.

Like others have stated , I would be much more inclined to buy a TRG or Coyote over getting a custom built. In the end there isn't a big difference in price(in fact the TRG or Coyote may even be cheaper, depending on who does the build). Your resale on a TRG or Coyote will be higher than a custom for sure!

BTW Don't let people talk you out of importing from the states or try to "scare" you with paperwork and fees BS, it is without a doubt cheaper than buying in Canada and easy to do. A friend of mine just imported a custom build .260 that he commissioned from a reputable builder in the states and got EXACTLY what he wanted shipped to his door in about 2 months turnaround in the $4000 ballpark all in. These were all high end parts too, if you find someone that can do this in Canada let me know.

Edited to add:

The said friend had Clay from Prophet River do the importing and was very happy with him.

They are a wickedly good system. I have a Coyote with the folding chassis in green. If you were closer to Winnipeg I could give you a test drive. :D Cheers

i want one as well, just have to sell some other ones love that barrel

For what it is worth, there are 3 different 308s that have completed the 1/2" at a 100 yard challenge. They are a PGW Coyote, an Alberta Tactical, and a GA Precision. I don't even remember anyone posting any attempts with a TRG, or an AI.

Are you suggesting that the TRG and AI can't do it?

I love my ab tactical and it's ten round mags

The Nemesis isn't there either and its the most accurate rifle ever made, whats your point?

I am using the cold and a untested reload for my .511moa average (couldn't be the shooter). Please note the ice forming on the rifle when I was shooting! Post #211 in that thread :p

Toolman is a way better shooter too! :D (ya- I said it!)

I don't think that someone setting out a personal challenge on the internet that nobody has participated in with a certain brand of rifle is an accurate measure of the accuracy a rifle is capable of.......Is there a prize? (this may get a better response)
Are all the failed attempts posted with the rifle brands so we can see what the bad rifles or shooters are?

Sorry no experience with TRG, but...

I just picked up a Coyote in 260 from the EE, I was apprehensive about buying such a high dollar item used... at first but the gentleman (a real solid guy) I purchased it from was a really good guy even offered me the opportunity to shoot it before buying which I couldn't because it was -20C and I am too much of a house cat now for the really cold weather and needed to get back home 3 hour drive before the snow storm hit. I wanted to get a folder as I don't like the side saddle type cheek rest on the macmillan stocks (I have used my friends).

It shoots just as well as my semi-customs. Now mind you they were only 3 shot groups as I was just starting load development and was looking for pressure limits, all 5 groups were under 0.52" at 100y (most around .35"). Loads were 139 Scenar H4350 41,41.3,41.6,41.9,42.2 in lapua brass at 2.8235 OAL which is about 30 thou off. This was the first 20 rounds through it including zeroing it. It had about 75 rounds through according to the seller which seemed pretty accurate based on the number of marks on the side of the receiver from ejecting brass.

I normally only like jewell but the timney in the Coyote is pretty decent not jewell but it is acceptable. Not sure if it can be swapped for a jewell that would be very sweet.

I have coveted my friends Coyote and Timberwolf for about 5 years since getting back into the sport.

Now I have several semi custom rifles that I really like but I love my coyote folder. Aside from one semi custom that Ross built on a Rem700/macmillan (that I bought from a friend), I am always changing or thinking of changing my semi custom's and 700s. From a resale perspective, I think it is easier to minimize loss by going with factory (but I would consider an ATRS type custom to hold pretty well too). Am I going to abandon semi-custom 700's no not completely, they are so easy to change and monkey with but I do like having a few very nice factory rifles that you just shoot.

Only problem is now I want a Timberwolf folder and LRT3 cadex (which in keeping with the theme, I think should be called the "grizzly")

Pretty bold statement. I don't know much about the rifle to say whether this is true or not. But seems like a bold statement for anyone to claim about any rifle.

So this Ross, does indeed do custom orders? ie different chambering etc etc?

Yes, different colors and different chamberings. It will add some lead time but they will do it call or e-mail Ross to get the info. I can't remember 100% but they might be shut down until Jan 6th so you might have to wait a few days for an answer.

The offer Icedragonmx made is a good one. It's a custom color and is in perfect shape.
