TRG22 vs PGW Coyote

Keeping .005 or less before touching the rifling, sometimes you touch the riflings with an uncrimped load for max accuracy... JP.

cant someone explain to me this "loading to the lands? and top load?

Loading rounds so that the bullet is touching or very close to the rifling. It normally produces the most accurate loads. You'll have to fine tune that. As for top loading its when you don't load the mag with rounds, you just throw them in the port. You normally are required to do this when you load rounds long. i.e touching the rifling.

Sako TRG mag length is 2.95". This is generous enough to load the Sierra MK's (155's through 175's) into the lands in my experience. Generally speaking, bullets with tangent ogives dont present a lot of issues are far as loading to optimal COAL and still fitting the mag. The long Secant ogive VLD' are the bullets that present problems and usually have to be single fed.

there is so much i have to learn about reloading. From what i gathered from most of that is that factory loads are shorter rounds to fit all rifles. When making match grade reloaded rounds the round sticks out of the brass a little further in order to to seat closer to the rifling and the mags that come with the coyote are too short for these types of rounds ? am I remotely close at all? or am i right out to lunch

ahh ok. So kinda going off topic however. When i tried reloading my 308. For the seating of the bullet. I had taken a empty casing and Just slightly resized it for the bullet to just sit slighty in the case and then i chambered it and when it had ejected the bullet was seated in but was sticking out longer then factory ammo. Was this correct? It fit in my mag though in the end. However if the Sakos are capable of this then I could see mine as well since its the Tikka M595 Master Sporter. I'm unfortunately not home at the moment to actually measure my mag.

One of the benefits of .308 is the vast selection of bullet choices. As already mentioned, bullets with a tangent ogive are easier to reload to good accuracy and often shoot well with a 'jump' such as Sierra Matchkings. This makes them no issue for mag fed rifles.
Berger has lots of offerings including the new hybrids which combine both types of ogives to allow for shorter COL.
So no need to fear mag fed rifles....develop loads for both mag fed or single feed to shoot the long loaded VLDs.

Decisions decisions. Luckily sometime this week i'm going to have the opportunity to shoot these rifles side by side. Heres to hoping a decisions will be made afterwards. :) once that is done. I'll be getting back into reloading match. In the mean time. i'm going to hit up the range with the match grade factory rounds And i'll probably get some hate on for what i'm about to say. But after doing a test with my tikka. Hornady zmax 168gr performed the best out of the batch of match grade factory ammo

Either rifle will shoot lights out better than any shooter on any given day. Pick the rifle that fits you the best ergonomically, if they both fit equally well, choose the one that strokes your ego the best.

Bring your Tikka by work some evening and I have a Hornaday tool to measure what the C.O.A.L (cartridge overall length) is for it .

Hope to see your new toy out alot this summer ;)

True enough. If I was smart I should take this cash I have now and invest it in range time. Here m worrying about little things about a rifles when both of them will be able to out shoot me.

I will be back in town Wednesday if your around chalky.

You can say right now I'm slightly biased toward the TRG. Not to say there's not a Coyote folder in .260 in the future ;)

You're so anal! Look at that picture, hey buddy, step out of your comfort zone and buy something other than a TRG topped with a Schmidt & Bender in a Sako 3 ring mount...Oh wait...don't you own a PGW LRT-3? Nice rigs though, the TRG is one of the most complete and well designed platforms around.

Are those all 308s dude? Nice, but I notice the cheek spacing is different on all 3 why?

I'm not sure why the TRG mags feed so nice, but they are smoothest I've ever felt. They are long as others have mentioned. I don't seat too close to the lands, not even sure where my 155s sit honestly. But the gun shot 1/3 of an inch all day today at 100m (yeah not yards), except for the 3 rounds I tossed on two strings. Back to the mag, it's also a staggered mag with center feeding, which is nice for a compact mag that holds 10 rounds. Unlike the 2ft long mags the AI uses (sarcasm). They are also super tough mags, I've had my gun since 2000 and have around 13,000 rounds through it, the mag spring is still the original and the mag measures the same as my new second mag.
One weird thing, I cleaned the rifle last night, first time in 1200 rounds (yeah my bad. Gun shot .5 mil low. First time the impact has changed in 2300 rounds (since I switched to the 155s from 168gr).im assuming the cleaning did that lol.

From the top: .338 Lapua, .308 Win, 6mm SLR.

Cheek piece heights vary due to not getting around to ordering/making spacers to standardize them all. Funny you mention the 155's! I ran the token 175 SMK's for a long time until I couldn't find any earlier this season. I developed loads with 155's to get me through as they seemed to be far more accessible this past summer. Scenars, Bergers, and Sierras all shot sub .5moa over Varget and BR2's. I ultimately settled on Berger 155.5 Fullbores at 2900 fps. Best 5 shot group the gun has ever produced (5 into .178) came as a result of this load.

For you Ivo ;):

soooo, what did you do with the old barrel? I'm thinking that sooner or later my gun is going to puke due to the round count.
