He wants to spend that CF severance payout though!!! Lol.
What happened to the time honoured tradition of liquor and whores?

I may have missed it but I haven't seen you discuss scope mounts, if you go with the TRG get the Near Alpha Mount. best possible rig for holding your scope. I've got the Sako 3 ring, and love it, but my buddy has two of the Alphas, beautiful mounts and the nicest I've seen.
yes, I highly recommend the Spuhr as well. I currently have the 3 ring sako though and was considering upgrading to the Spuhr and selling it. (sorry, shamefull plug) I got the Spuhr mount recently for another rifle and it is by far the best option out there right now for the money IMOAlso check out Spurh mounts. The other thing to note is that it's tough to find an ACI if you go with NEAR.
who cares what experience the op has?I don't think the OP is trolling necessarily, however, based on the questions he's asking it appears his experience level isn't quite up to the level of expectation that one would assume would be there for someone willing to drop $4k-$5k on a rifle. It's analogous to get getting your beginner driver's license and and buying a Porche 911 for your first car.
OP, you might want to take a step back and look at something more realistic like a heavy barreled Remington or Savage to get you started in the precision rifle game.

My first "precision rifle" was a TRG in 338 Lapua, would I be a better shooter starting with a savage or a remington? smaller calliber? crappier scope?........probably not, but what I do know is I would have eventually bought the 338 with good optics anyways so I saved myself a bunch of money that was spent on ammo instead of lost when selling that remington or savage used.
I never said the TRG was my first rifle, nor did the OP for that matter. If you can't figure out why a TRG 42 in .338 Lapua wouldn't be a good rifle for most people to start out with you're either a shooting prodigy or you simply don't know any better. I'm thinking the latter rather than the former. Have at her. You've obviously got it all figured out.
I"d just like to say that to everyone whose commented recently. I'm pretty sure I didn't post my resume here with regards to my shooting ability. I don't go around googling and researching every new rifle that comes out. I know my rifles inside out and have spent more time on a range then a lot of folks can imagine. But because I question 2 new rifles that i'm not really familiar with and I don't reload. This makes me an amateur shooter?
I'm not fortunate enough to be able to buy high end rifles all of the time, I can't have 3 TRGs in different colours to suit my mood for the day. I do have a family and priorities so yea, I'd like to be sure on the rifle I decide on.
The way i see it. Whether this thread is informative to anyone out there or just going on and on. I couldn't really give 2 ####s. Its been very informative for me. Making this thread has giving me the opportunity to go out and shoot the rifles in question and I've had some offers as well for a lot people willing to help me out. To them, I say thank you. To anyone thats bored with the thread. Move on because I might get another question about something stupid and it might grow a page. However if someone answers my stupid question then i'm satisfied.

I'm on to 50bmg now, but thanks for your concern.
My first "precision rifle" was a TRG in 338 Lapua...
which is true, the trg was my first that fits this catagory, all my previous firearms would be classed as hunting rifles, black, etc. I guess that means I am not an equal in your eyes because I started out with the 338, sorry to have offended you.Brian, if the topic of discussion is "precision rifles" and you made the following claim...
that should prove to be an interesting thread i think.I will post a new thread to continue the discussion about new shooters and. high e. nd rifles. It will be up soon.
