Trick to removing Marlin Glenfield 30 fore-end?

In trying to de-rust this Marlin rifle I have (mentioned in another thread) I tried to remove the fore-end, but after taking out the two retaining screws in the fore-end cap, the wood won't slide forward or out.

Is there a trick to that?

I looked very closely at the Gun parts catalogue and even though in the cross reference guide it indicated that it was a 336, I'm pretty sure from the fore-end configuration that it is a Glenfield 30 now.

Try taking a soft wood block and lay it on a protruding edge of the forend between the receiver the forend. VERY VERY carefully and patiently tap on the block, driving the forend towards the muzzle; it should move. The hang up is likely that the magazine tube is sprung against the bottom of the barrel, and once the wood clears the reciever it should pop out easily.

If you get it out successfully (be PATIENT) I would then carefully slightly rebend the magazine tube, assembling and disassembling 20 times if necessary until it all fits together without any springing. I did this on my 336 and it improved accuracy as well as it took a lot of pre-load off the barrel.

Good advice. Sometimes they can be very tough to get off. Have patience and be careful.
