Hey All

So, I have been shooting in the Open Class of IPSC for some time now using both a tricked out Kimber Eclipse with a Deltapoint or a Springfield Armoury Custom Long Slide... That being said, I am a true lover of revolvers and I have a dream of shooting a Revolver in Open Division...

That being said, I purchased a Smith and Wesson TRR8 and I have a Leupold Deltapoint going spare so...

1. Would it violate any rules to shoot this in the Open Division? and

2. With the 8 shots and moon clips, could I be competitive? (With a LOT of reloading practice...)

Any advice would be helpful...

Open is just that, open. Pretty much anything goes. I don't think 170mm mags will be an issue for you and that's pretty much the only rule limiting Open guns.

No. You're good to go.

2. With the 8 shots and moon clips, could I be competitive?
No. You won't be competitive. Open guns are still compensated, carry 10+1 rounds and usually have 1.5lb SA triggers.

(With a LOT of reloading practice...)
Still wouldn't matter, sorry.

An open revolver is a cool oddity.
You won't win but you'll look cool trying.
You might have a chance winning some short stages, I've seen it happen at a smaller match.

I would say with allot of pratice he could win....

Jerry is certainly fast, bordering on inhuman-fast. I've shot with him a number of times and watched him do things with that wheelie just made my jaw drop. Video doesn't do it justice. But a BIG part of the dazzle is that he's shooting a wheelie. But he still can't compete with it against Open guns though. Not even close.

OK, so I have purchased the TRR8, a good holster, moon clips, etc. I should have it all here by next week. Once I get everything and start putting together my "Competition Rig" I will post a thread on here to keep you all updated.

Just to keep it fun, I will wear my Contour Camera for a few rounds to record how I do... (If you promise not to laugh...)

Without the optics, you are also good to go in Production which is also minor power factor. If you shoot 38 short colts that will help with your loading speed and the cases will clear the cylinder easier. You won't win but with some practice you will be far from last. As most courses are designed by people who plan for a couple of misses, you will see way more 8 shot arrays than 9 anyway so an eight shot capacity won't be a serious handicap to worry about.

As alternative to short colts, you could also cut down some 38 special brass to length.

Imagine how the bottom feeders in Production feel when they finish behind a revolver. So just got there and have fun, which is why are supposed to be doing this anyway.

OK. Now that is a good idea... I definitely have to do some practice with the moon clips...

As a hard core 1911 shooter, this would give me a way into Production Class... Plus, with some serious practice, I should be able to at least be competitive.
