35 whelen and no regrets

I was trying to get a CZ 550 FS (Full Stock) in 9.3 without any success and I end up getting the Rem 700 CDL in 35 Whelen. I have absolutely no regrets. I'd love to see Browning chamber the BLR for the 35 Whelen and the 350 Rem Mag for that matter - then I could have the full set.:D I'd still like to pick up the CZ as well, if I could only find a shop that didn't pilfer the rings out of the box then try to sell them back to me.:mad:

Whoa whoa, hold up a minute. The 9.3x62mm is not a .366-06 as you put it. The 9.3x62mm came out 1 full year before the .30-06 (1905) and has a larger case than the .30-06. In fact, the .30-06 was likely based off a combination of the 9.3x62mm and 7.92x57mm rounds since the M1903 was essentially a Mauser copy.
 
The .35 Whelan is an excellent round. I had one in a 700 Remington Classic.
Worked really well with 225 grain Nosler partitions and 55 grains of 4320, around 2500 fps out of a 22 inch barrel.
Shot one moose with it, three hits in boiler room at about 35 yards in about 15 seconds, he laid down directly. Guys talk about one shot kills on moose and no doubt some have dropped instantly, just never seen it myself.
They are pretty shock-proof critters. An old moose hunter in my area told me when I started hunting,"Just as long as he's still standing you put the lead to him cuz once he gets started he'll go a long ways."

Of all the moose I've seen dropped, only one has dropped in it's place from the 1st shot.

A few years ago I was out with a buddy. With his 30-06, from about 50 yards, he shoots this moose broadside. It doesnt move. I said, "dude, you missed it?". He puts another round into it. Same thing. He said, now what? I said, keep plugging it, eventually you'll hit it.

After the 4th shot, it decided to start walking away and we lost sight of it in the willows. After a 45 min search we found it about 10 feet from where it was origionally shot.

When we opened it up, there were 4 bullet holes in about the size of a hockey puck. I guess his shooting wasnt all that bad.

Just a tough animal.
 
You have to hit bone to put an animal down in it s tracks high shoulder shot works well for this .the 35w is a great shell for alaround work dutch
