Tried again to get an ATT

I left it too close to ATT expiry (my birthday in late June) and am still waiting for the next "long term" ATT to be issued (almost 3 weeks now). The last one was for two years, this one will allegedly be for five. I wonder if I should be a paper criminal and go shooting this weekend...sounds good :)
 
I love Alberta. I stopped in at the CFO's office in Edmonton to pick up a temp ATT and simply asked if I could get a long term one as well. 3 minutes later I had it in my hands good until mid 2010 for AB and SK.

No wonder it takes so much time for me to get a short term ATT, if the CFO staff has to waste time in dealing with impatient individuals wanting to by-pass an already overloaded & understaffed system. CONTACT YOUR CLUB AND GO THROUGH THE PROCESS LIKE EVERY OTHER ONTARIO GUN OWNER!

Things might never change in Ontario. Why? Because *EVERY OTHER ONTARIO GUN OWNER WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS. THAT'S THE WAY IT IS AND DON'T FIGHT IT. *

Wasting the CFO's time???:confused: Your flippin' right I would be wasting his time. I would be phoning every day, every chance I had to remind him that in other provinces, the whole issue could have been resolved on the first phone call.

You want to blame montecarloRob that is takes so long to process *your* short term ATT? Because the CFO is understaffed and overloaded? Shame on you! All he wants to do is shoot. All he HAS to do is wade through the beaurocratic process that has become * the way it is in Ontario.*

Instead of crying about your short term ATT, stand up beside mcRob and waste ALL of the CFO's time!! Nothing will change because of your willingness to comply.

Same thing here! I think I will never go for a restricted for two things: insulting ATTs and opening my residence to unwarranted 'inspections'. Ain't goona happen.

As a citizen of this country we have every right to question our laws and the CFO have the responsibility to explain it to us until we understand it.

Do you work for Chinese government or something? Because this is a free country if you're not aware.

There could be 2 things that could change policies at the ON CFO's office: a change in Federal policy making the ATT an automatic incorporated attachment to the PAL, or, a change in the ON gov't. McGuinty, Bryant, Kwinter, et al. would just as soon confiscate all privately owned handguns as allow their use on ranges. Complaining to the folks in Orillia isn't going to change anything for the better. Working for a change in government is a longer term solution, but one that is most likely to pay a dividend.
My MP and MPP are Conservatives. Are yours?

You are doing exactly what they want you to. If they make it a big enough hassle then people won't even bother trying. And over time the number of handgun owners will dwindle to the point where there will be no effective opposition to a total ban.

I say get off your butt, get your restricted, buy at least 1 handgun and jump through the hoops to get an ATT. Don't make the other side's job any easier than you have to. :D
 
I live in Nova Scotia and belong to two clubs, the first one refused to help me with an ATT because I'm still on probation and they even sent me a letter recently that my permanent membership was refused because I had yet to attend any regular Tuesday night shoots even though I've been there like a douzen times and signed in everytime. I would call for a temp. ATT every Tuesday. The second club sent in the ATT form and it was in my mailbox three days later, I was given a 5 year ATT, 24/7, to and from any range in the province.

No. Instead of wasting your own time and time of a person, who has no say regarding the law and policy (CFO), you can work towards changing the laws (Ontario provincial elections).

That is not entirly true. That person, when they have heard enough, will speak to their superiors, and the problem gets attacked from both the top and the bottom.

And don't confuse laws with policy.
 
The ON CFO is appointed by, and reports too a seriously hostile administration. Assuming that the CFO was willing to improve the situation, from a shooters' point of view, is there any reason to assume that the current administration would allow it?

Thank you very much. If Mr. Happiness actually read my other post regarding my first attempt at obtaining an ATT he would realize that I know the 2nd in command at the CFO office in Ontario personally and have worked under his command. I actually spoke to him personally about the situation and he couldn't help. I'm not looking for special treatment, I was just hoping that maybe I could change the policy for every Ontario gun owner. Silly me. I guess Mr. Happiness is just ducky following the beaurocratic crap just to shoot. ATT's have to be the biggest joke of the firearms act. Section 86 of the criminal code deals with Careless use of a firearm. Unsafe transport is under this section. Transporting a restricted firearm without an ATT is considered endagering the lives of others. I have to ask the question how so?
 
Clubs are allowed to renew ATT's for up to 3 Yrs. in ON to all expire on the club's anniversary date, which are staggered that only a few have to be processed at once. The long purple forms are no longer used. I you look at one of those, you will see that the ON CFO used some common sense to not require listing all the restricted guns you own or all the ranges you might want to shoot at, just stating guns "as registered" and "any range in ON". Club secretary has to send a letter with 2 club official signatures and PAL# certifying that the member has been instructed in safe shooting. We must advise CFO if membership lapses so they cancel ATT and the ATT automatically expires with PAL. If I don't notice to remind member that their PAL is up for renewal, then sometimes they get cranky with me because they forgot to renew, or forgot to tell me they got new PAL and now their ATT has lapsed. Policy, other than internal paper pushing, does not get set at the CFO level. If you really want to hassle someone, start with your MPP, or if you think it will help the actual Chief Firearms Officer. Don't berate the people who answer the phone, they don't change policy.

BS! Who issues the ATT's for the rest of the country???????

When the CFO gets tired of the phone ringing every threee minutes, they might start issuing ATT's without the clubs *permission*.
